Unfortunately, Lee Highway and Lee-Jackson Highway were named after the Confederate Lee & Jackson, in the early 1900s. If it had been named after Lighthorse Harry Lee for his Revolutionary War service instead, we'd still have it.

wow. a piece of history that has existed for more than a century being ripped by a group of know nothing politicians. sad

It's ok, PP. You don't have to be sad. The highways will still be Route 29 and Route 50, you will still be able to drive on them, and you can even keep on calling them whatever you want to call them.

It's a shame.

Germany should re-name some streets as e.g. Hitler Boulevard and Dr. Josef Mengele Square. We need to reinstate history.

Old news, OP. Slow day in your mom’s basement?

Who learns history from road names? How is it erasing history to decide to stop honoring people who committed treason in defense of slavery?

Is there a way to protest this? Can we start a petition?

It was the Klan that initially got these streets named and sponsored the monuments, maybe you can join to show your support?

Yes, you (whoever "we" is) can start a petition. Anybody can start a petition, about anything.

I wonder whether the OP favors naming streets after Benedict Arnold.

Stonewall Jackson was a total POS. Lee possibly had some redeemable qualities.but ultimately decided treason was the right decision. No reason to name anything after him.

OK, so I guess that's it. We're not racist anymore, right? We're all good. This is great, time to celebrate. lol

So sad that northern virginia’s rich confederate history (Robert E Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia, Arlington Cemetery, etc.) history has attempted to be erased, as evident in changes to Lee Hwy, Jackson Lee Hwy, Jefferson Davis Hwy, many of Fairfax City and Alexandria City’s streets, Robert E Lee HS, JEB Stuart HS, Fairfax HS Rebels, Loudoun County Raiders in LoCo, and PWC’s Stonewall Jackson HS, just to name a few.

You'll get no sympathy on these boards Op, it's as if they learned nothing about the Civil War and what President Lincoln and the soldiers who lost their lives meant to the end of slavery. They have a belief that if we just rewrite every history book, and erase all monuments then hate will go away. But it won't, because hate will always live in these peoples hearts and minds, always.

Yes, but your politicians are all progressive democrats. Good luck with that, and I truly mean it.

Thank goodness they finally ended this nonsense . Nothing should be named after traitors to America.

I think hate in people's hearts/minds and no roads named after people who were traitors to the US, is still better than hate in people's hearts/minds and roads named after people who were traitors to the US. So, progress!
