Do they have nothing better to do than to rename every single street and school, most of which residents don’t care enough about? So sad that northern virginia’s rich confederate history (Robert E Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia, Arlington Cemetery, etc.) history has attempted to be erased, as evident in changes to Lee Hwy, Jackson Lee Hwy, Jefferson Davis Hwy, many of Fairfax City and Alexandria City’s streets, Robert E Lee HS, JEB Stuart HS, Fairfax HS Rebels, Loudoun County Raiders in LoCo, and PWC’s Stonewall Jackson HS, just to name a few.

| Thanks for sharing! Great news. Traitors shouldn't be honored. |
|
Great news!
F the racist traitors. |
| Why name streets and schools after traitors? We don't have Stalin Boulevard, Lenin Highway or Hitler Parkway, right? But no one is claiming we are "erasing" the history of the Soviet Union or WWII. Naming a street or school after someone is supposed to be an honor, not a history lesson. |
| Yeah how dare we erase *checks note* racist name from highway. |
Deciding not to honor traitors is not the same as "erasing history." I am certain Northern Virginia schools are still studying the history of the Civil War and familiarizing themselves with what men like Robert E. Lee, Jeb Stuart, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson did — including the fact that they were fighting to continue the right to own people as property. |
| "Rich confederate history" is a funny way to spell slave-owning traitors. |
Seems like you're the only one crying. |
| Nice to see Virginia modernizing and shaking off its embarrassing past. |
| Wasn't it named after the Lee family? Robert E Lee's dad was a celebrated Revolutionary war veteran and also a governor of VA. Light horse Harry |
and Jackson was...? It was named to put black people in their place just like all of the 'historical' monuments were placed to remind them who was in charge. |
|
National Anthem should be next. Because where it says “ land of the free” it was actually just white men who were free, well I guess white women sort of where, but not really.
|
| That's great, thank you for letting us know! |
Unfortunately, Lee Highway and Lee-Jackson Highway were named after the Confederate Lee & Jackson, in the early 1900s. If it had been named after Lighthorse Harry Lee for his Revolutionary War service instead, we'd still have it. |
wow. a piece of history that has existed for more than a century being ripped by a group of know nothing politicians. sad |
