VA Learning Acceleration Grants -- where are you using?

Under-stimulation and wasted potential is also a problem. And why should gifted children's needs always be put behind learning disabled children's needs?

Bring it back to the topic. "VA Learning Acceleration Grants -- where are you using?"
The funds were just doubled so a lot of new folks with waitlisted application have been granted the $1500. Now, where to spend it? Anybody could share the list? (don't have access to classwallet yet)

We're working with Mills Virtual Tutoring and an in-person provider in Alexandria (multiple kids, two content areas each). I had a call with Ms. Mills herself after filling out a form online. She was very nice, and the tutors have worked out well for us.

You could also ask teachers you trust for recommendations when your kids go back to school. We know quite a few teachers who are VDOE approved tutors.

No, they are providing them on a rolling basis - I was "waitlisted" two weeks ago, but just got approved. There will be a ton of money available in August as people who didn't use the $750 have to forfeit their money. I have no idea how I'm going to spend that much money in a month and a half.

This is incorrect. As long as any money is used by 9/1 AND and all money is used (invoices submitted) by the end of the year, nothing forfeits.

8/10 email:

This is a reminder that as a Virginia Learning Acceleration Grant Program recipient of $1,500, a portion (of any amount) of your student’s grant funds must be used by September 1, 2023. You DO NOT have to spend the entire balance by September 1st, just a portion.

If you do not spend a portion of your grant funds by September 1, 2023, the funds will be returned.

The final deadline to make payments or purchases through ClassWallet is December 30, 2023. Please make sure all services are provided and that all invoices are submitted, on or before that date.

If you have any questions, please contact ClassWallet at help@classwallet.com.

Sincerely,

Just got our grant. Can we sign up for fall classes but submit the invoices before 9/1?

Make sure all invoices are submitted AFTER tutoring session dates. Make sure the invoices clearly show date of tutoring and for what subject.

Has anyone gotten the classwallet email yet, the one which is supposed to arrive 2-3 days after notification of the grant? I am still waiting and am wondering if that is unusual.

Got it yesterday.

I'm surprised by the spreadsheet of providers. It is often just a name and an email address. They really should have added a free text column for types of services. Right now it feels like just reaching out blind to random people or going with the companies who at least have a website.

My friend used Outschool. Lots of classes there, inc descriptions.

Most of the Kumon locations seem to be available.

For us, we also approached multiple tutors/therapists with whom we already had a relationship, and one of them was willing to jump through the hoops, wait for a while, and eventually was accepted. Another one was denied, and not sure what happened to the third. Anyway, this is why to reach out to more than one. Fortunately (?) OT is expensive, so we should be able to blow through our remaining money by the deadline.

Do not take this as gospel, but my understanding is no, unless the class starts before then.
