Any ideas for the least painful way for my upper elementary child to boost math and writing skills with these grants this summer? |
Enjoy your grant. Sucks for those of us for whom the money ran out, especially folks like me with two kids diagnosed with Dyslexia. Just feels gross that the grants are going to be used for enrichment. |
Has anyone gone through the process of getting a provider into ClassWallet? We were hoping to be able to use the grant to pay for summer speech therapy, but I don't know how onerous the process is, and our speech therapist isn't in there now. |
I’m an SLP and it was very easy to get approved. I just uploaded my Virginia SLP license and received an approved email a week later. I applied for my child at the same time and it took longer to receive the rejection email. |
I can understand being upset but the money is available for things like enrichment so as long as the rules are followed, it’s not gross to use the money available. - new poster |
I think VA handled it poorly - they should have had a need-based round first before the rich families who want to get their kids advanced math and AAP prep for the summer jumped in. |
So by posts above, all the grants gone now? Was it like concert tickets and first come first serve and ran out same day could sign up for them? |
It’s too nebulous to define need based for these purposes. There were different grants based on financial needs. Is that what you meant? |
No, they are providing them on a rolling basis - I was "waitlisted" two weeks ago, but just got approved. There will be a ton of money available in August as people who didn't use the $750 have to forfeit their money. I have no idea how I'm going to spend that much money in a month and a half. |
NP. When did you submit your original application? (also "waitlisted" and want to see at what application date are they granting funds). |
Weird. I was notified June 1 that the money had all been doled out and that I'd be notified if more became available. Sounds like you were notified almost two weeks after me and yet somehow now are approved? How does this happen? |
Good in theory, but you're forgetting all the "special needs" advanced learners in AAP |
NP as well. Curious as to the timing too. I submitted in mid May (5/19 I believe) and was told on June 1 that no money was left. From what I can gather based on other posts I've seen online, I only just missed it so I hope I'm up there in the queue for the money if/when it becomes available. Not sure how someone could be "waitlisted" and have received the money *after* I was rejected. Seems odd. |
I submitted the last week of May and was informed in early June that my region (Region 4, which is all of Northern Virginia) had reached the cap, and that if additional funding became available they would let me know. What does it mean to be "waitlisted" and how is it possible to have been "waitlisted" only two weeks ago and get approved recently? |
Bump. The funds were just doubled so a lot of new folks with waitlisted application have been granted the $1500. Now, where to spend it? Anybody could share the list? (don't have access to classwallet yet) |
