Is this a McMansion?

Anonymous
To me, a McMansion is a mass produced home sited in new developments on former farmland so there are no mature trees around. It's where every house is the same and is usually garishly big, with a two-story foyer and no charm whatsoever.

No.

No. It’s good quality, custom, brick on all four sides and its exterior doesn’t look like someone made it up from a mix of styles. It’s classic.

Appreciate any input!

According to the Oxford Languages, whatever that is, a "McMansion" is a large modern house that is considered ostentatious and lacking in architectural integrity.

This to me is totally subjective. What's ostentatious to one person, is elegant to another. So with that said, to me this is not a McMansion. It's quite tastefully done and not at all distasteful or gaudy.

It's McMansiony but not the worst sort of New Jersey variety.

The overproduced Redfin-style photos with extreme angles make it look tackier than it probably is in real life.

Uh, no.

I love this, but I really like that she has an actual set of criteria besides "it's tacky."

This is pp who said it is. IMO the "custom" build quality doesn't overcome the middle finger at the neighbors ostentation, thus the desire to give it a pejorative label like McMansion.

It's hard for me to tell from these photos what the rest of the neighborhood is like?

OP, not sure why you are asking the question? Some people will find it ostentatious and I don't fully disagree with that. But the first floor layout is good, quality looks nice from photos, and if I needed to move to the area and had the budget (I don't) then I would consider it.

I just looked at it and the houses around it on google maps and in my opinion, I say no, it isn't.

I vote No, it looks like it has some high quality construction materials.

It's the epitome of McMansion. The dictionary definition.

Did you read the quote above? This house doesn’t meet that at all. It may not be your taste but by no means would this be over the top large tacky home.
