Is this a McMansion?

Yes, because it is trying to be a mansion on a suburban in-fill/teardown lot.

Is it technically a McMansion? Probably. But my unpopular opinion is that it looks nice and better quality than 90% of the McMansions around here. Hate the all-beige color scheme interior though.

This is pp who said it is. IMO the "custom" build quality doesn't overcome the middle finger at the neighbors ostentation, thus the desire to give it a pejorative label like McMansion.

It's hard for me to tell from these photos what the rest of the neighborhood is like?

OP, not sure why you are asking the question? Some people will find it ostentatious and I don't fully disagree with that. But the first floor layout is good, quality looks nice from photos, and if I needed to move to the area and had the budget (I don't) then I would consider it.

That's a totally meaningless, if derogatory, term used by people who can't afford the properties they apply the label to.

No. While the interior is not my cup of tea, the exterior is too tasteful for this to qualify as a McMansion. Generally you need both large size and some sort of architectural offensiveness—poor design, low-quality materials, etc.—to make the cut.

I don't particularly care for the style (French Provincial), but it doesn't look out of place in the neighborhood, and appears to be well built, and isn't cookie cutter. So no its not a McMansion.

That's Illinois for ya.

No. Not my style but it is harmonious, well designed and well built. It's not that different from many of the Midwestern Tudors built in the 1920s in places like Detroit.

No. Not a Mac Mansion.

No, it’s just a kind of ugly, big house built where a much smaller house probably was before.

It’s ugly but not cheap.
