That pp is a troll. NNAT doesn't go above 160, and they always post on here about a "private diagnosis". |
Our kid's NNAT was a little lower, but COGAT and WISC were a little higher and we got in in the Langley pyramid. The Our kid's GBRS were not as good, but somehow we were able to over come that in the appeal. We put in really string work samples (worked on them over a couple of weekends) and what I think was a strong appeal letter. So glad we made the effort. It was clear in speaking to our kid's teacher that they really did not think our kid should be in level IV. But they are in now! This whole process really shows how a bad match between kid and teacher can really screw up the process - what if we were a less resourced family who did not know how to push back? How many of those smart kids are being missed because of teacher/committee subjectivity? |
Yes, you should have. Before someone says we're probably URM, we are not. We are Asian. My kid was actually sent home early after taking the nnat. Found out kid had the stomach bug and was vomiting for 2 days straight after. I think that's why the nnat was so low. |
Nnat 125
Cogat 132 Wisc 130 Gbrs - 2o2f (we fought this hard in the cover letter) In! |
What pyramid? We had similar scores and did not get in ![]() |
Nnat 132
Cogat 132 Wisc 140 Gbrs - 4 F Marshall pyramid Not in on Appleal We don't even know what to do we are so lost, it appears the only thing that matters in GBRS. We spoke to her teacher on how to improve GBRS and the team says she is a fantastic student and I never gave the GBRS score. How can something so subjective determine a child's abilities? |
I can't help but see these 160 NNAT scores and think that these are kids that definitely did NNAT prep to "test into AAP". It would make since that other data is weighted higher if its suspected that this isn't a true picture of the child's ability since they've been training to take the assessment. The NNAT and CogAT aren't designed to be studied for. I'm a teacher in another district who has never seen a kid with a 160 in over 10-12 years of the district giving this assessment. |
My kid also got a 154 WISC, I'm sure a teacher with 30 years of experience only sees this less than 2 times in his/her career. 160 NNAT is not hard to achieve. Unless the WISC and other schoolwork does not support it, it's unreasonable to question it. Also, GBRS is fairly biased, when a teacher never seen a profoundly gifted child in their career, they cannot properly assess the child. |
Not in my DC's case, who got a 160 NNAT with no prep. I was actually very surprised at the score. I later found out DC is actually color blind! So if there were any green/red puzzles, as one PP mentioned these tests include, DC got the score despite being colorblind. I'm weighing in to simply dispel the notion that any kid who gets a 160 on the NNAT definitely prepped. I don't believe in prepping for these tests and sent my kids in unprepped because I feel that kids should get into the program honestly based on their scores. But of course when other families prep, that makes it harder for everyone else. |
Same here, child has 99% IQ and got 160 on NNAT. We were surprised, I am sure the teacher was too because she was struggling in school. Most people connect reading to intelligence, which is incorrect. My child was behind grade in reading in first grade, so a high NNAT was a red flag. Child has now been diagnosed with dyslexia. She did well in the NNAT since there is no reading and she is very good at puzzles and logic. |
How were the work samples? We got in on appeal with similar scores but had 2COs and 2FOs. The work samples submitted on my kid's behalf were pretty bad, so we submitted some new ones with the appeal. I feel like the work samples carry a lot of weight too. |
Did this parent's kid apply this year? |
My First grader got a 160 NNAT unprepped. I'm anxious to see what they get on CogAT... We haven't done a WISC, but their FSIQ is 137 from private psychologist testing at age 5.5 |
Either prepped or trolls - but I agree that a 160 on the NNAT is probably an automatic No from the committee. |
Quick question, when you guys talk about CogAT score, which one you are referring to? Verbal, Quantitative, Nonverbal or Composite SAS? |
