I need to get from JFK to Greenwich and back, what's the best way to do this?

JFK Airtrain to Jamaica
LIRR to Grand Central
Metro North to Greenwich

Annoyingly you have to buy a MetroCard for the ridiculous $8.25 JFK Airtrain fare. The LIRR and Metro North tickets can be bought using their apps if you want to save time and skip the ticket machines. On weekends the LIRR City Ticket is only $5 for Jamaica into Manhattan, and Metro North to Greenwich will be around $10.

Terrible advice for someone flying into JFK for a wedding in CT and leaving the next day.

NP I disagree, I think its great advice. She said *if* she wants to save money and has time. And the way traffic can be in NY often times public transit is actually faster.

Three separate trains on separate tickets, two transfers (including GCT), and another Uber/cab ride from the Metro North station in Greenwich is not going to be faster than a car service from JFK on a Saturday — barring some road catastrophe.

Can you change arrival airports? Westchester is 15 minutes from Greenwich on back roads.

The ground transportation from LaGuardia to Greenwich is easier/more predictable than JFK too.

I have to travel out of NYC all the time and the public transit way is not worth all the transfers.

Just hire a car service to take you there and back. Find one that is based in Greenwich or CT so that it is cheaper, the ones in NYC charge a lot more.

Uber from LGA

JFK to Greenwich roundtrip? My wife did that recently. Trains are tough with transfers and time. She used Gotham Ride (gothamride.com). Reliable, comfy, saved her stress.

I had to do one leg of this in 2023. I took an uber from LGA. It was about $150

Are there a lot of stairs on this route such that doing it with heavy luggage would be difficult?

It’s a 24 hour trip.
