It is supposed to get worse tomorrow.

So keep your kids home. Seems simple enough.

My kids are out of HS

So call in sick yourself if you don't want to go to work?

I WFH. WTF is your problem?

Do not cancel school. They can stay inside. Parents who are paranoid can keep your kids home or send them in a mask. Don’t punish everyone else.

Agreed. OP, keep YOUR kid home. There is no good reason for an emergency closure.

Schools out west often have days they close or go virtual to protect young lungs. Brain studies also show that —even correcting for HHI and parents’ education— children learn less when there’s high pollution.

No they don't.

Your kids can stay indoors at school. If you wanted virtual sign up for the virtual academy. No.

Ok, and you choose to send your kids in person. That’s on you.

We still have an unused snow day in the schedule! Don't waste it!

I'm sure we all have a stash of n95s leftover from the pandemic. Send kids to school in masks if you're worried, OP.

I think it will be closed. Thank god.

No. Absolutely not. Kids at least have stuff to do at school and are used to being inside all day. Kids are just going to be hankering to be outside at home OR not with adults because adults who work cant just take off because the air quality is bad.

Suck it up and deal. In the late 70s when I was growing up in southern CA, we had regular smog alerts: hazy skies, couldn’t go out for recess, your eyes burned. I’m alive and healthy after YEARs of that. Everyone will be fine with ONE DAY walking from the bus into their school.

There’s more likely to be mishaps from kids being left unattended if their parents have to deal with an emergency school closure.
