is your school canceling outdoor activities because of air quality?

Our baseball games on Fairfax County fields were just cancelled.

Thanks. Haven’t heard from ours yet. Half are on FCPS fields and half on county fields.

Our middle / high school baseball games just got pushed to later in the evening.

Maybe? However South Carolina is reporting air quality problems from the fires too. Be prepared for change.

What will happen if we are outisde all day? I picked up my kids early from school today and let them play outside, there nothing wrong with the air. I am in the Fair-lakes area and I don't see anything a little bit foggy, but that all. They are making the same mistake they did with COVID.

But there is an established air quality alert system already in use, and we are in the range where it's not recommended to be outside even if you are a healthy person. It's not like they are just making this up on the fly or reacting - we just don't deal with wildfire smoke that's this intense very often.

I have a job where I work outside and I will be out all day tomorrow doing physical work. Not asking or expecting to get out of it. But, I understand schools canceling outdoor events. I think it is best practice to follow the established guidelines.

Agree. I felt fine as did kuds being outside today.

Our swim team canceled practice this afternoon too.

They should keep activities as scheduled and leave it to the discretion of parents if they want their kids outside .

But then the people running the activities have to be outside.
