In my county growing up, 2-3 elementary schools fed to a middle school and 2-3 middle schools fed tos. High school. It was feasible to do an 8th grade promotion ceremony.
Our fcps middle school has the same boundary as the high school, with 600 kids in 8th grade. The middle school ceremony would be as big as the high school graduation. So, I have no issues with not having that. It is sad to me that there is no recognition ceremony to motivate kids who do well. Kids who get straight As or honor roll, kids who improve grades over time, those who are exemplary in a given subject or are just above and beyond based on character or community service - none of that at all and that’s just very sad to me. |
