MS Graduation

Anonymous
Are there any FCPS that hold a MS graduation? I know the whole thing is a little silly, but it was a big deal for me over 30 years ago and still seems to be the trend everywhere else but here.

Do any schools hold them? Any specific reason why they do not?

Because it's a stupid waste of time and money? Ever know anyone who didn't make it past middle school?

Because it falls on the school staff to planet and you guys are already unappreciative enough as it is.

No space large enough to accommodate everyone.

No need. Graduation is for HS and college!

Plenty of my former students over the years didn’t make it to their high school graduation.

I can think of lots of reasons:

Middle school is only two years.
Lots of people have older kids who are graduating from high school. Scheduling is hard enough. Elementary schools are also having end of year "graduations."
Teachers have enough to do without another event to go to--so do parents.
Graduation is generally the 'last" event. The celebrations held at middle schools are not tied to being the "last" event.
What do you do with the seventh graders while you are having "graudation" for eighth graders?

I can only think that OP must have only one child or only younger kids.

Our school is having a ceremony next week.

It's a "promotion", not a "graduation". No degree is confirmed.

Our does not have one but it’s a secondary school so I suppose I understand.

Is this what you are looking for? I think even a promotion ceremony is silly. https://kilmerms.fcps.edu/index.php/announcements/8th-grade-recognition-ceremony

Our school might do something fun for the students, but luckily no ceremony. It’s middle school! It’s only 2 years, so not a big deal leaving it like it was for elementary, and you’re not getting a degree, so not a big deal like high school.

Yeah no thanks. Just one more thing.

There was a principal on Tiktok saying she wasn't going to say the G word because they love selling balloons etc, because then high school and even college graduation won't be as big.
