It's interesting that you consider 32% to be majority Asian-American. The plurality demographic group at Churchill is non-Hispanic white, at 43%.

While we're at it, let's look at the elementary schools in the Churchill cluster:

Bells Mill: 27% Asian-American, 8% 2+, 41% non-Hispanic white
Seven Locks: 26% Asian-American, <5% 2+, 49% non-Hispanic white
Beverly Farms: 30% Asian-American, 9% 2+, 45% non-Hispanic white
Potomac: 33% Asian-American, 11% 2+, 39% non-Hispanic white
Wayside: 41% Asian-American, 6% 2+, 38% non-Hispanic white

And Churchill's boundary may change due to Crown High School opening.

Wootton likely, but not Churchill. If Churchill, the slice that should have been assigned to Wootton might be involved. The bulk of Churchill neighborhoods are far far from the Crown site.

Churchill will be part of the boundary study for Crown, and the boundary study for Crown can - and likely will - involve boundary changes in addition to just reassigning areas to Crown.

Anonymous wrote:Actually a huge difference. Churchill has a more international money and daddy or mommy is a ceo money. Whitman is more daddy or mommy is a high level gov't employee or high level VP type money. As far as academics and extracurriculars, not much difference, but each has its specialties.

So Churchill has better kids

If Better = Richer

Is it really rich? There are a lot of private schools nearby. But yes , more money reduces single moms and crime

But seems to amplify drug use and racial incidents

Stats counter this, more affluent ate better educated and are more racial aware so they are better behaved and inclusive than the low ses south American or aa schools. Drugs are much lower and they are for rec use not making a living

Potomac: 33% Asian-American, 11% 2+, 39% non-Hispanic white

Asian families go where the good schools are. Churchill is an excellent school. As a PP noted, accurately, there is a decent amount of middle-class housing in Potomac that is a factor too.

As generalizations go, that one is accurate. Asian families in MoCo prioritize schools with strong academic reputations like Churchill and Wootton.

Yes, because Wootton's boundary will change it will impact adjacent schools like Chruchill's. Further, many of these boundaries were drawn 40+ years ago and were intentionally gerrymandered to segregate. It's time to correct that as well.

Pretty sure the stats posted above back this up, no?

As a PP noted, a difference in the two schools is the demographic makeup of the student body. Churchill is more diverse economically and racially than Whitman. According to the At a Glance reports, Churchill's FARMS rate is 9.6% (ever-FARMS rate of 12.6%), while Whitman's FARMS rate is less than 5% (ever-FARMS is 6.9%). The student body at Churchill is 43% white, 32% Asian, 10% black, 9% Hispanic. By contrast, the student body at Whitman is 60% white, 15% Asian, 12% Hispanic, and less than 5% black.
