| I have a Smithie who absolutely loves it! I could not think of a better school for her. But Davidson also sounds amazing. How nice to have such a great choice! Good luck to her! |

I went to another school in NC (Wake), and I’m not going to lie - the weather during my campus tour was a HUGE factor after a miserable winter in the mid Atlantic.
Funny enough, Smith is the school that has always stuck in my head as the one I should have looked at more seriously. Paths not taken. There was a parent last year asking about Davidson and Williams, and I know I mentioned weather there, too. The girl wound up at Williams in the end (there was also a boyfriend involved) This does have to be your child’s decision in the end. Both great schools. I don’t think she can go wrong either way. |
| Davidson no contest. Even more so since she is straight. |
| I think it depends on how liberal your daughter is. I get the impression a lot of schools like smith have moved very far left. What used to be more acceptance of others and progressive ideals is now more extreme. |
|
Smith is an incredible option that stays with you for a lifetime. I don’t have to tell you that.
In regards to her being straight, I think that your husband is sort of missing the boat here on that being a factor in the decision. I mean Davidson would be great too but I’m just not sure that who your daughter dates is relevant here. Particularly as she might find people in life that have a masculine energy who are women or who are trans that she wants to date. And that could happen anywhere. |
“I get the impression a lot of schools like Smith…” Way to go with the deep critical thinking skills.

|
I think your daughter should decide, unless there is a financial component to this that makes one place the more logical choice in terms of debt she might carry on graduation.
They’re both great places and she’s be happy at both, no matter her orientation. |

I'm a Smith alum, extremely successful in my career, and happily married to a guy. I don't know why people get the impression that Smith is for gay women/trans.
We were back there for a tour last year, and I did not get the impression that there were no men visiting for parties and hangouts. |
Because it’s easier to just be lazy and glom onto someone else’s “impression” picked up from the internet, questionable sources and the like. See the post above. |
I love how the pp simply dismissed the girl’s heterosexuality as some kind of misunderstanding. It’s perhaps the most insane comment I’ve ever read here. |
Lmao |
Nice double negative. |
+1 The world has lost its mind. Would you say to a lesbian.... Don't consider the gender you are around.... There could be a man with a feminine energy you want to date!! What a helpful notion to keep in mind... I think the gay conversion programs probably preach this. Moron. |

Why not let the student decide?
Smith vs Davidson is the same dilemma she will face in the the future and in her life. Now is only Smith vs Davidson, but soon she will face Humanities vs STEM, 24 meal plan vs. 13 meal plan, campus dorm vs off campus, Wall street vs Silicon Valley, east coast vs west coast, Steve vs David... when that time comes, will you decide for her whether it's Steve or David? |
| The 5 college consortium is a plus. Academic and social events at all five schools in the area. Multiply theater opportunities by 5. Smith maybe on a schedule that makes this a bit tricky.Northampton is fun. Access to Boston by bus and NYC by train from Springfield. |
