Packed kids lunches that kids will eat

Anonymous
My kids ate sandwiches for lunch. I wasn't really going for that "wow" factor for packed lunches. I was looking for easily made and easily eaten food. Done.

Also, fruits like watermelon and clementine help keep them hydrated moreso than others. Consider packing those too.

Fyi- if outdoor camp, even with lots of ice blocks and good bag, food will get warm so if can freeze things helps- like freeze yogurts, freeze drinks, etc and they will be thawed by lunch

Food will be kept inside!

I never went for exciting for camp lunches. Camp itself is exciting enough, they just need something they will eat.

Sandwich, fruit, crackers or chips or popcorn, couple of cookies, juice box or water bottle.

Bento style lunch with leftover grilled/roasted chicken, sliced cucumbers and cherry tomatoes, fruit, cold noodles or a bread roll, small brownie, juice box or water bottle.

Pinwheel wraps with ham or turkey, cream cheese or sliced cheddar, pesto or sundried tomatoes. Add fruit and cookies on the side.

SAME

Though I did occasionally get “fancy”, freeze a Capri Sun instead of chucking in an ice pack.

One of my kids is super picky, especially about room temp food. I often pack him a chocolate protein bar, cheezits, apple slices, carrot sticks, and a handful of mixed nuts. It’s not the healthiest, but he eats it.

My picky eater also enjoys tortellini or ravioli with no sauce and a little cup of pizza sauce to dip in.

PB&J on homemade bread, fruit, a veggie, something crunchy. Done

Winner winner chik'n dinner.

"Homemade" bread is an optionality.

Does it have to be brown bag lunch, or can you send reusable containers? If the latter, you can get one of those divided bento lunchboxes and do a “snack lunch” with small amounts of several different things…cheese, crackers, grapes, baby carrots, pretzels, etc. That’s my kid’s favorite.

Yep. Camp is not the time for creative and elaborate. Main dish, veggie (carrots, cucs, peppers, or baby spinach), fruit, something salty/snacky (seaweed snacks, cheezits, popcorn, pretzels), cheese stick. My kid has a big appetite and this covers lunch and a snack later.

Main dishes that my vegetarian kid likes:
PBJ (or sunbutter)
Cheese and crackers
Tortellini, ravioli, perogie
Room temp rice and beans

Repeat all summer.

Oh, new this year she'll also eat a bagel with cream cheese, hummus and pita (not veggies). Also leftover pizza, except Dominos (that's so gross at room temp!).
