Where to find Wegovy 0.5 in the DMV area

I got minimal effects from .25, and I had just picked up .5 when the Notice of Shortage came out and was scheduled to start .5 it in a week. Before I went to my next checkin a few days later, I checked with my (small community) pharmacy, and they still had 1.0 in stock. So, my dietician prescribed the 1.0 a day before I actually started the .5, to ensure I had continuity of supply. My insurance (FEP BCBS) covered the early fill because it was a dose change.

So, if you are stepping up on Wegovy (going .25 to .5 to 1.0 with a monthly increase), it’s worth asking for a very early fill of the next step up. It gives you plenty of time to get in line at your pharmacy and hopefully get the drug when it comes in. As it turns out, I’m still having cravings on the .5 (but have lost net 13 pounds and according to inbody, which includes a 4 pound muscle gain. I’m also eating approx 1200 cal, looking at my meals with a dietician biweekly, 100+ grams of protein a day and working with a personal trainer). I start 1.0 next week and it’s been sitting in my fridge for a month. Thank goodness.

An early fill is a risk if you don’t end up going up in your dosing. But if you aren’t having side effect or great coverage at a lower dose, can be worth it. To me the bigger risk was not being able to access .5 or 1.0, and reversing 2 months of steady progress.

When I saw my PA this week, she immediately asked if I had been able to get the 1.0. And said she was thankful I had requested an early fill when I did because a lot of her patients were a couple months or more in and unable to find low doses (And added: just don’t start the 1.0 early. Do the full 4 weeks on .5, which I am).

After 1.0, I would step up to 1.7, has not had supply throttled. It’s hard to believe a reputable prescriber would allow you to go from .5 to 1.7. Mine is very insistent that I take all 4 weeks at every dose. Slow going, but I have a lot of weight to lose, so I’m in this for the long haul.

I’d also suggest calling Costco Pharmacy. During the pandemic I had good luck getting medication that was on backorder everywhere else. You can use their pharmacy without buying a membership.

Thanks for this info. Where do you go? This sounds appealing.

NOVA Physicians Wellness Center, which is part of Privia. They have multiple centers in NOVA. I had to wait a month to get in, but it was worth it. I like it because I have a lot of weight to lose. So, I like having it monitored and being sure I’m doing it in a safe, monitored, sustainable manner. I see the same PA (which I like) but may see different dietitians. They also do an Inbody scan every visit, so that I know how much fat vs muscle vs water weight I am losing. Also, like the dietician checking, which are not a separate co-pay under Federal BCBS. They help keep my eating on track and give me suggestions on how to balance macros, avoid cravings, to increase protein if I’m losing muscle instead of fat, etc.

Great for making serious lifestyle changes, where medication is one part of the plan. Not the place to go to get a prescription called in and check back in 6 months.

I called around to several different pharmacies in NW/NE DC today but was not able to find Wegovy 0.5. If someone finds it please post! I am 1 week post missing a dose and was already making progress so I am hoping to get back on ASAP

If you go to a CVS, you can have them search in a 20 mile radius to see if they have it. I would also call a CVS wayyyy out (yes it may be a drive) to see if they have it. My local CVS didn't have the 0.5, but they found a box at a CVS in Bethesda and Wash DC. I was willing to drive, but I actually found a box at my local grocery store.

Maybe try calling Sam's Club or Costco (as someone else recommended)

I've heard mixed things about Amazon Pharmacy.

Is that different than Express Scripts? Because they’re out too.

It’s CVS Caremark Federal Program. FEP

Not all fed programs get mail order service. I'm BCBS FEP Basic, and we don't get mail order rx as an option to us. That's only available to BCBS FEP Standard or BCBS FEP Basic with Medicare.

Bump. I’ve been prescribed .25 and can’t find it anywhere. Any more recent luck?

Same here. I can't find .25 in Virginia.
