What happened at Jackson Reed last Friday?

Read Frumin's letter. Knife incident was at CVS.

What letter from Frumin? I normally get his newsletters but got nothing from him on this. Can you link?

But that won't happen. Parents that care about their kids will mouth the platitudes and in the meantime quietly move to the burbs or privates. If you have another option besides knives and guns, you'll take it. Meanwhile, DCPS schools will quietly go to hell because no one dares say a word

We had the opportunity to vote for a different mayor and different CMs and, as a whole, did not take it. We get what we vote for.

FYI - Jackson Reed is the only DCPS school where a student walked through the front door with a gun... FYI.

Wait, can you please tell us about this gun incident? One got inside of school? - another concerned JR parent

There were two gun incidents at Wilson (now Jackson Reed) of which I am aware:

and

Edit to add: There is no evidence that the knife or knives involved in the incident being discussed in this thread had ever been in the school.

Do we know which HS they were from? Why were they outside JR at 3.30 pm? That means they either left their own school early or never went to school on Friday

You understand that High School students have more flexibility in their schedules.
Students may have free periods (beyond lunch)

So you actually believe that all those
kids that you can see in the video respectfully attended all their classes at their school and then quietly left and took the metro to Tenleytown and suddenly switched into aggressive mayhem mode. And come Tuesday, they will just go back to school on time and get absorbed into their precalculus and English classes. Interesting take.

This I agree with. I did not vote for the mayor but most people did. The business lobby did a great job up selling the mayor

There have been knives at deal too. Neal just hides more.

Walls and Banneker are probably the only two DCPS high schools without this type of crap going on

First of all, no knives in Jackson-Reed. Security guards are pretty good in my opinion and do not let kids just slide through. They do a very good job at controlling the chaos.

Second, I don't know about Banneker but Walls has a lot more drug and alcohol abuse (not that it doesn't happen at JR) so there is always something.

Remember that time multiple students ODed at Wilson (now JR), from a dealer at Wilson and the principal refused to say they ODed.

That was fun.

Why are you throwing out random slander at Walls without any evidence to back up your assertion? That is not cool.

Random slander hitting a lot of targets in this thread. Which is why these threads are at best pointless, at worst actively harmful.

Exactly. The gossip mongering is not limited to SWW.

On Friday J-R also had a very successful field day. If you walked or drove down Nebraska that afternoon you would have seen hundreds of students enjoying the beautiful afternoon and a very chill vibe. Dunk tank, ping pong, dj— no fights in sight. I’m not trying to minimize the incident described in this thread, but it is probably not on the radar of most students.

So, this is a link to something that happened in 2015 (before metal detector protocols were stepped up a lot) and a link to a thread about the metal detectors working exactly as designed.
