What happened at Jackson Reed last Friday?

Is it true a student was arrested for being aggressive with a knife? How did this student get past the metal detectors?

Read Frumin's letter. Knife incident was at CVS.

But the students involved were Jackson Reed students and the principal can be seen in the Twitter video of the arrest

It is unfortunate but they probably need to ban Jackson Reed students from the Tenleytown CVS and Target. Not sure what causes some kids to behave so badly. Difficult home environments I’m sure but the community and neighborhood should not be held hostage

I saw the video. I’m not sure what best practices are on drawing a gun, but the (Black) officer was clearly justified to use some kind of force on the out of control teens.

No shots were fired and the situation was controlled. The cops did what they needed to do and no more. The kids screaming and fussing were all just acting like idiots. Actually glad it was filmed so the truth is out there.

My understanding from the police report is that the subject had on their person a knife. The handwringing around the officer pulling the gun is garbage. These types of unfounded complaints undermine legitimate complaints about police brutality. If that subject had injured a bystander or student the same people would be out here complaining that DC doesn't protect its students.

The students seen on camera yelling at the cops looking for their instagram moments.

I don’t understand how any school is supposed to effectively manage these types of student behaviors with the limited set of tools they have. No wonder our schools are such a mess and teachers are leaving the profession. The social justice pendulum needs to self correct.

But that won't happen. Parents that care about their kids will mouth the platitudes and in the meantime quietly move to the burbs or privates. If you have another option besides knives and guns, you'll take it. Meanwhile, DCPS schools will quietly go to hell because no one dares say a word

Does it really matter where it actually happened? These are high school students. Do you think they are model students with good behavior when they are in school?

FYI - Jackson Reed is the only DCPS school where a student walked through the front door with a gun... FYI.

They were from another DCPS HS.
Do we know which HS they were from? Why were they outside JR at 3.30 pm? That means they either left their own school early or never went to school on Friday

You understand that High School students have more flexibility in their schedules.
Students may have free periods (beyond lunch)
