First time in H mart

Love H Mart! There are other markets similar but to me H Mart is the gold standard. We love to eat at the little food court. My kids like bibimbap and I get the kimchi jiggae.

The lack of easy access to an Asian grocery store is the biggest downside of living on Capitol Hill. It’s such a trek.

+1

Agree. I still like it because their produce is very fresh and they have such an amazing variety. I used to count on it for low prices but now it’s sometimes as expensive as Safeway.

Love their shrimp, marinated beef bulgogi, frozen dumplings, and frozen spring onion pan cakes.

We buy beef short ribs, shanks and oxtails at H-Mart. It’s not cheap but the quality is very good.

Personally, I find the huge displays of fish especially intriguing but baffling. I know I can ask for help, but it just seems so intimidating.

I felt the same way my first time at an Asian store with a huge live fish counter, and I'm Korean American.

I just watched what others did for a bit, then got my fish in the basket, hand it to the person behind the counter and tell them how you want the fish prepped by the # on the board.

Asian markets have more fish variety than American markets.

This is one of the reasons why I'm limited to large metro areas when thinking of moving/retiring. I need an Hmart or Lotte I can drive to within 15/20min.

I shopped twice at H-Mart and will not return. It smelled like all the fish were overdue for 2 weeks.
