We did a three-week hiking trip in Australia last fall -- the forecast was for rain and cold every single day. Instead, we got sun and cool breezes most days.
Don't trust the forecast. But have a backup plan. |

Nope we do not cancel for weather. Took a very wet trip to Olympic national park one year. After a dry, hot summer out there, we had the one week where it rained a lot. We made the most of it, put on raincoats and hiked away.
We also went to Banff one summer despite lots of smoke from wildfires. Out airbnb even called to tell us she would let us cancel. We would have lost money on flights so we just went. Views weren't the best, but also looked kind of cool in the haze. Thankfully it rained one night which brought down the smoke for a few days and gave us great views. Still one of our favorite trips. |
| PP again the only things I would cancel for weather are backpacking trips. Hiking and camping in the rain is not fun. |
| Yes, cancel outdoorsy trip if rain! Reschedule on another warm, dry weekend. |
|
Depends on the weather and what the options are for alternate plans.
I’ll sometimes still head to the local beaches if I need a change of pace and I’m interested in shopping, relaxing, and eating out. |
| I have rescheduled a trip before bc the whole point was to be outside (pools, water slide, mini golf, etc). There was a penalty to back out last minute and reschedule, but we’ll worth it bc we went on perfect weather days instead. |
| Only camping trips. We will camp with some rain, but not in thunderstorms or constant rain. |
I was able to avoid losing any $ so I canceled our roadtrip to Asheville, rain every hour the whole weekend. We can go anither time, easily. If it’s one bad day that’s OK but 3 bad days on a three day weekend, nah. We’ll just have a staycation and go out and do some fun things if there’s breaks in the rain locally

Local camping, yes.
Caribbean Island and hurricane, yes. Anything else, no |
For camping yes. If we have a hotel, apt or house I wouldn’t cancel. For extended car travel (8-12 hrs), I’ve adjusted departures to beat extreme snowy conditions. |
| Nope - never. |
