Do you cancel trips based on the forecast?

Just a road trip, but weather looks to be low 60s and raining and this is a trip we mainly do for some pool and outdoor adventure time over mem day wknd. I tried to reschedule for our next available 3 day wknd but hotel does not have openings. My brain has been fried with other decisions lately and I just can’t decide what to do. Would you cancel? We could instead do a lot of hotel time and maybe museums?

I wouldn't cancel - just re-frame the trip, go bowling or to the movies or find an indoor pool and maybe the weather won't be as bad as you think

We have. There is no point in a long weekend at the beach if it's going to steadily rain the whole time. As long as lodgings are refundable, we stay flexible.

Can you get money back to do something you'd enjoy more? Then cancel. Will you lose the money and just sit around at home wishing you were on vacation? Then go!

Maybe you'll discover something in the town that you didn't know existed or didn't know you'd like. Maybe you just will enjoy not doing laundry and cooking for 3 days.

I've canceled a trip mainly geared toward an outdoor pool once due to weather. The forecast thunderstorm did not materialize and we never got around to booking that same trip again. I kind of regret it.

The weather report is always worse than it will be. So I've never cancelled due to weather, even to places where I expect to be outdoors a lot.

See if you can make backup plans with indoor activities if being outdoors really isn't feasible and will be unpleasant. But odds are the weather will be better than predicted.

If you can get a full refund - I might cancel.

The only trips I typically cancel based on weather are camping.

This. And the times we’ve cancelled camping were due to excessive heat forecast. That’s no fun.

Same. Not going camping in the rain (I made that mistake once and will not again!).

Do you get a full refund and/or are there other fun things you can do even in bad weather? Is the hotel a place that you'd have fun hanging out in? I personally would not cancel but I know my DH would be more inclined to, just because he doesn't enjoy "the hotel experience" as much as I do.

No Way! Some of our best memories are trips that didn't go as originally planned.

We cancelled our road trip to Charleston this weekend. Total washout.

Cancelled Yosemite due to fires. 🙁

I almost cancelled our spring break trip due to bad weather, but ultimately we were only stuck inside one day so I was glad I didn't.
