I mean it’s a pretty general trend across most Asian countries/cultures — special regional or seasonal foods, lots of emphasis on feeding people as an expression of love/affection, but also lots of emphasis on thinness as a beauty standard and direct commentary from parents/grandparents on what you’re eating and how unhealthy it is/isn’t and how you should be eating and feeding your family better. |
Pretty much this exactly. Therefore, This thread focused on the US is dumb. |
Ok. I admit I do not know much about Asian eating trends. But, is it really that they vilify carbs, sweets, fruit, rice, noodles? I thought it was more, eat in moderation, and lots of veggies in foods. At least in Korean shows I've watched; everyone is constantly eating noodles of some sort. |
In my experience as an Asian-American, there isn't necessarily a focus on types of foods. You need to eat the food they offer you to show respect, but don't get fat. There's no mincing words. This clip pretty much sums it up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GQQ38yF4iM |
There is just as much junk food if not more at the conveniences stores in Tokyo and Seoul. They are all over the place. And Koreans and Japanese 100% vilify eating too much of that stuff. |
What a backwards way to look at it. People have been forced to focus on diet and exercise because corporations are allowed to bombard us with foods that are engineered to taste amazing and keep forever but are packed with sugar and salt and chemicals that interfere with our hormones and make us fat and sick. And car companies and developers convinced local governments to create an explosion of pedestrian unfriendly suburbs and exurbs in order to increase car dependence and allow for increasingly enormous and expensive homes.
If you just don't think too much about it and take the path of least resistance you could easily end up consuming massive amounts of processed and fast foods and driving everywhere and getting zero exercise. That's what happens to a lot of people, it's why we have an obesity epidemic. And yes, I know some people are genetically blessed and just eat when they feel hungry and maintain a healthy weight. But for most people, it takes focus and effort to beat back the tide of crappy food and sedentary living. |
NP. This part in particular is stupid:
This tells me everything I need to know about your opinion on food obsessions. |
I don't think it does tell you anything. It tells that you have no concept of how unhealthy it is to diet, not eat this or that, and then feel guilty about eating this or that. In fact, I am pretty sure that any fad you follow is insane. |
The CAUSE of weight gain or loss is excess or deficit of calories.
Period. When you think about or are mindful of calorie intake, it's easier to have a deficit. |
Some of us are here to contribute and help. You don’t seem to be interested in that. Mindful eating is not a “diet.” It’s a fueling plan. If you do that, a couple of times of eating some trash is a rounding error. |
Everything you post shows unhealthy obsession with clean eating or similar eating disorder. Fueling plan and calling food you disapprove of trash shows that you truly are in clutches of an evil eating habit. Your kids are watching and learning to feel ashamed when they have pizza. Don’t come crying when your children have anorexia or bulimia or hide food. Don’t come pretending you have no idea what caused it. Also stop presuming what eating habits i or others have. I assure you, my eating habits are none of your business regardless of your insane desire to call me stupid. You are not that bright yourself as you can’t even get the gist of the messy of this thread. |
Telling people to avoid fruit, carbs, meat, do IF etc is not “being here to help” it is about validating your insane eating habits and detachment from food reality. |
Americans have to be more cautious about the food we eat. We don't have the culture of a love of food the way they do in countries like Italy and Egypt. The Mediterranean is known for having a very healthy diet. If that's all you ever eat, no need to obsess over food. I remember as a child with my mother and grandmother going to a fresh produce market every Saturday morning. We made food based on what fruit and vegetables were in season. Most grocery stores had a butcher. We would prepare our own vegetables. That's a bit more time consuming than how most working women are today. I wouldn't have time to snap off the ends of green beans or shuck corn or grow tomatoes and eggplants (which we did in our backyard). |
Go take your meds |
I don’t need to, unlike you my healthy, non ocd food habits and avoidance of fads are all the nutrition and medicinal on their own. You should try it, healthy mind, healthy body. Oh and no food is off limits. I shall eat some dates now cause sugar in them in so sweet and nice. Bite into one, you might get weaned off Prozac. |
