Yorktown college admits

Whether or not this is true, there’s no reason it should be surprising. And Arlington high schools in general have good college stats, in terms of schools with low admit rates.

I find people who say stuff like this fascinating. How could you possibly know that!?!? What nonsense. There is absolutely no way to compare APS to, say, FCPS or MCPS or DCPs or private schools since none publish real datasets and rely on instagram pages. Arlington folks love to feel superior about their schools and they are great when compared nationally but locally it’s not at all clear that they are any better than any other jurisdiction.

It doesn't sound like the PP is comparing Arlington schools to other local school districts. I think they are just saying that, perhaps anecdotally or from Arlington magazine info from the past, that Arlington schools have pretty good college stats.

Only a small number out of each schools seniors post to the instagram pages. Arlington magazine relies on Naviance data. So it is accurate in terms of who applied to each school. But again, as has been discussed as nauseum here, ACCEPTANCES in Naviance are self-reported by the student. So unless the student goes back into naviance for each application to report they were accepted/rejected/waitlisted, the data is not accurate.

So it seems the instagram pages are the closest to actual you cann get

I took PPs comment to mean that the results across all three APS schools look similar, not comparing to other jurisdictions.

It’s always the same deal.

People look at the Instagram pages where only a fraction of kids post and say the destinations look good.

Then Arlington Magazine comes out with more detailed information later and people agree the admissions look bad.

It’s seems like people have different ideas of what looks good vs what looks bad. Some on this forum have used Arlington Magazine to brag about the “amazing” college stats from APS high schools. So who knows.
