Do you prefer a screened in porch or a sunroom?

The windows are also very easy to move which was important to them due to arthritis. They get the best of both types of room that way. They did say the windows were pricey.

These are EZE Breeze or Sunspace vinyl windows. We have a screened porch with Sunspace windows that slide up or down. We have a gas fireplace in it, so we can use the room year-round.

We are considering Sunspace windows and would love any insight or things to consider before ordering them. Thanks!

I have a porch with retractible screens and they are lovely, but the second you open the screens, the bugs enter, so we keep them down year round. I am so glad we have the screens and not windows.

I have added screened porch to my house and it is so versatile in summer (screening out pests and mosquitoes) and winter (not that bad if you add mobile heating). The most important thing is it is an outdoor space connecting your kitchen or family room or breakfast room.

We’re having a house built and we’re doing a screened porch with a ceiling fan. We will use it year round. Love how it feels like we’re outdoors but we’re not.

A sunroom just feels like a random room that will end up not being used or used for extra storage space. All my friends with a sunroom end up just putting random junk in that space.

It’s my dream to have a porch. My parents have always had one and they have dinner out there most nights when the weather is warm. With the mosquitoes here our backyard is unusable for most of the summer. I don’t really get the point of sunrooms but that’s just me

I’d only get a sunroom if I was worried about adding Sq ft to the house.

Our sunroom has sliding glass doors with screens for opening on nice days. But I really prefer a sunroom because the screens get so dirty. And the furniture gets wet.

Absolutely a screened porch. We lived in a rental with a screened porch and it was my favorite space in the house - we added string lights, a TV and a dining table and I basically loved out there. We bought a house with a sunroom and never use it - we already have a family room, living room and basement so the sunroom is just duplicative of the space we already have. I miss our screened porch SO much and want to convert our sunroom to a screened porch (DH won’t even entertain the idea - doesn’t understand why we’d “get rid of indoor space” but I totally disagree). We are saving to do a big reno and if our budget doesn’t allow for the addition of a porch, I will honestly probably move and buy a house with one.

DUe to the pandemic, I now want a screened in porch for socializing with friends.

My sunroom is my favorite room in the house. It's great on sunny days but also on rainy days. I love curling up in there and reading a book or having a drink.

Same – our sunroom is basically all slider doors, and it connects to the house via collapsible sliders, so on a really nice day, you can open everything. I love not needing to either stow cushions or have furniture covers.

Has anyone converted an existing deck into a screened-in porch? Can it be done?

Do you want to be outside or not?
