Wedding "welcome party" in Maine - what to wear?

Anonymous
What is the general setting? Is it in a city - Portland? Or rural area?

I always hate that DC is too damn hot to wear white jeans by the time Memorial Day rolls around. Here's your chance!

For indoors, yes. If this is to be an outdoor affair, you will likely want some sort of a light coat. It will likely be in the low 50s (or lower) in the evening.

We are up in Maine a lot (Portland and Mid-coast area) and the past 6 years there has been a SIGNIFICANT warming trend. It was down-right hot the last two summers. It hit 90s each time we were there which used to be unheard of.

Since it may be quite cool at night in Maine, just pair it with a great sleeping bag coat:

Whatever you end up wearing I’m sure you will look great.

This is a joke, right?

Where is it going to be, OP? Surely there's a location/address/named venue here.

100% certain there would be an inside option, btw, unless this is a very casual, camping/crunchy situation.

in Maine in May?

Absolutely. We are in MA and are already experiencing horrible mosquitoes. A warmer spring and April wet = giant, unruly mosquitoes. Oh! And ticks too!

Are you on the coast?

Yes but the problem is you can't predict if the warming trend will continue that day, or not.

No. We are inland. It's just a weird spring.

I’d err on the side of casual.

Wear the white jeans with cute sneakers.

Cropped sweater & waxed canvas jacket.

I’d go with darker colors if it’s a rustic location/campfire.

We spend our time in ME on the coast and very rarely see mosquitos or ticks. My kid is a tick magnet so we check often.

This is way too casual. I would say. I think by casual, if it is a wedding it still needs to be elevated. OP, I live in MA and basically if it’s an event in July or August I would wear a dress, or if it’s winter because then I could do tights. The spring is the WORST to dress for. It could be 80 or 45/50. So what I would do is this: Trousers are huge right now and they are on-trend but causal/classy:

With a pump. And a nice tank that you could wear by itself if warm:

And a warm blazer or leather jacket: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/blanknyc-faux-leather-moto-jacket5?color=024&size=S&inventoryCountry=US&countryCode=US&utm_medium=paid_search&utm_source=Google-Mobile&utm_campaign=US%20-%20Shopping%20-%20PMAX%20-%20Apparel%20-%20Apparel%20Icons&utm_content=&utm_term=&creative=&device=m&matchtype=&network=x&utm_kxconfid=vx6rd81ts&gbraid=0AAAAADnwqi75DdODEypBtX7FzlCM6sSD4&gbraid=0AAAAADnwqi75DdODEypBtX7FzlCM6sSD4&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI587cnJfL_gIVS-bjBx0BbgRREAQYBSABEgK4QfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

It’s not the wedding though. It’s a casual welcome event. In Maine.

Unless it’s at a country club/fancy hotel, I’d go polished casual.

^ but I do like that outfit if it’s a nicer venue.

There are definitely mosquitoes on the coast of Maine. And black flies, mayflies, and no-seeums

Yup, depending on location and which way the wind is blowing. It’s usually fine where we are. So much better than being eaten alive every time we go outside in VA.
