I am going to a wedding in Maine over Memorial Day weekend and can't figure out what to wear to the "casual" wedding welcome party the night before the ceremony. I'm not sure if it's inside or outside - never been to Maine but I'd imagine it will be relatively cool at night?
White jeans? A casual dress? Skirt and shirt/sweater cardigan? |
| Relatively cool is a huge understatement. Maine on May, at night, is going to feel like winter to you. You need to find out if it is inside or outside. |
| Mosquitoes are a different breed in New England. Cover up and bring your DEET. |
| Night at Memorial day = whatever you wear have an extra layer. Usually this is before bug season but it's been really wet at our summer home so I've heard it will be bad. Daytime could be 75 degrees, could be in the 40s at night. |
| Jeans and a cute sweater. |
This. Also, what part of Maine? |
in Maine in May? |
| blackflies are more of a concern than mosquitoes in May. |
| I would wear a cute/casual day dress (e.g. Tuckernuck, Doen, Marimekko) with a warm sweater / jacket. |
This, plus I'd think about tall boots so that when the temp drops your feet and legs won't be cold. |

Memorial Day--white jeans! And cute wedges, nice fun top and bring light sweater or nice jacket.
I always hate that DC is too damn hot to wear white jeans by the time Memorial Day rolls around. Here's your chance! |
For indoors, yes. If this is to be an outdoor affair, you will likely want some sort of a light coat. It will likely be in the low 50s (or lower) in the evening. |

Here is a can’t-go-wrong look. It can look dressy or it can look dressed down, and it’s classic: https://www.instagram.com/p/CqkeNmmMydp/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Since it may be quite cool at night in Maine, just pair it with a great sleeping bag coat: https://www.instagram.com/reel/ClPLnnCsdw1/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Whatever you end up wearing I’m sure you will look great. |
Something like this but with a blazer

Absolutely. We are in MA and are already experiencing horrible mosquitoes. A warmer spring and April wet = giant, unruly mosquitoes. Oh! And ticks too! |
