It’s May 8-12 |
As a teacher and I’m friends with lots of teachers, only one of your suggestions the teachers really want- Money. Homemade cards are being squaked at, fwiw |
I have all the notes I've ever gotten! (But I'm high school so there aren't quite as many as ES). Write notes to the administration praising the teachers. Write notes to the board or representatives in support of the ends of the staff. Yes gift cards sounds nice, though my school has never done them. I appreciate the breakfast and coffee days (IF it's available early - sometimes they don't set it up until during 1st period and by the time I get there it's gone). Snacks are nice, but please remember the staff members who have religious dietary needs or allergies - one year they did staff appreciation meal during Passover and Ramadan...). |
when is the teacher appreciation week? |
Yeah we say this every year- we don’t need or want gifts. Gift cards are ok but tbh it makes me uncomfortable to receive any gift so I don’t even want those. Nothing means more to me (truly) than a parent or student writing me a letter or card of sincere appreciation. At my school the art classes have kids pick teachers they want to make appreciation cards for and seeing which kids wrote to you and why is always so touching. It’s usually the ones you don’t even expect. I’m in high school so I almost never get those types of messages from the parents but the rare times I have, it means the world. Despite all the noise and drama about schools, we really care about your kids and are there to serve them. The true gift comes from knowing that we made a difference for them.
Since you’re the room parent, maybe you could go in and do a quick interview with each kid to say what they love about Mrs Smith and then edit it into a video montage to play for her. Include parents who are willing as well. She’d absolutely love it. |
PTA is managing events and gifts for the week. Our school doesn’t have room parents. I don’t want to gift just from our family, plus the school year ends the third week in May where we are and I’m doing thank you gifts then. |
Brief note and a gift card and be done with it.
And to the big long list lady, do not foist your bring a flower this day and bring a candy bar that day crap on the rest of us. We’re busy people with real work to do. You do whatever you want, but I’m giving a note and a gift card at the beginning of the week, and your theme day nonsense is not something I will participate in. |
Real work? |
For those asking. Teacher appreciation week is technically the 2nd week of May. Our district in VA is celebrating the first week of May due to SOLs. |
That was what our school does daily for the week for all teachers. It’s easy and fairly cheap for the kids. |
BS. Teacher like homemade cards from students. |
BS? Um, ok. As I stated before they need and want money and homemade cards don’t do that, but you do you, pumpkin. |
Are you a teacher? Yes, to your face, of course you think they love your cards. |
per the national PTO, it’s the first full week in May starting with a Sunday as the first day. in most years that is the first week in May which is what is confusing people this year. But the first Sunday in May of course is not until the seventh this year and so teacher appreciation week is May 8-12. Even within our school district people are celebrating it different weeks. |
Although it’s a fun idea, I am shocked that PTA is sponsoring a happy hour. Major liability issues. |
