Why are the bees so aggressive in spring around here?

They’re carpenter bees. Around this time of year, the male bees are aggressively guarding their nests. That’s why they’re hovering around and dive bombing you. The good news is the male bees don’t have stingers - they’re just belligerent. In a few weeks they’ll be done with this phase and will largely disappear.

Just leave them be and ignore them. Be impressed by their chutzpah. You’re big, they are little. And temporary.

They are big and fuzzy but the fast moving ones not the super slow, super large ones.

Be thankful for the bees. There is a shortage of bees in the US They pollinate our crops and allow us to eat vegetables and salads.

Hah! Carpenter bees I am sure. The number of posts that go up in Spring about these specific bees are funny but kind of alarming. People, the males do not have stingers. They are just big and talk a big game. They are also very curious about us humans. They can swivel their heads so take a good look at them and marvel when they come close to you staring at you in the same inquisitive way. Don't hurt them please. Remember Bee Movie. Don't be the stupid boyfriend.

Use your racket and practice your swing with them.

Never saw that movie but how are we supposed to know they don't have stingers if they are going so far we can't see the males. Are carpenter bees the fat ones?

Did you swing at them with your tennis rackets?

PP here, I meant they would be aggressive if you swing at them. DO NOT SWING OR SWAT AT BEES! They may be wasps, especially if they hang around garbage cans.

No, I don't see on.

You won’t see it. The nest is a small hole in wood. If they’re bothering you on the court, their nest is somewhere near you. Like others said, they’re aggressive and scary but can’t really hurt you. And they’ll be gone in a few weeks.
