I don't understand how this is relevant. Did you watch this series to see what led up to this scene? It's a great show, btw.

We didn’t tip the roofers. We put out a cooler with water and Gatorade and offered them the use of a bathroom but they didn’t use it.

My roof, for $15,000 tips are included and you never EVER let strangers use your bathroom but if you do make sure someone is home with you. The roofers we had went down the street to use restroom facilities. As paranoid as you all are about COVID you'd think you'd be more aware of germs.
Food and water is on them.
The only people we tipped were a painter and the guy that replaced our front door. We did allow them in to use the restroom though. Father and son team.

why were they special?

Guessing they were white

Roofers pee in the dump truck, don’t buy lunch, they already have theirs and by you ordering pizza because it forces them to eat pizza which isn’t a type of food you want to eat when you’re doing intense labor like that.
Tipping isn’t necessary but if you come out with a box of lightbulbs and ask if it would be possible for us to change the flood lights then yeah you’re gonna need to hand over a couple bucks.
If you want to put out a cooler with some ice and Gatorade’s that would be really nice but the thing that everybody really likes is a thank you and you telling us how great the roof looks before they leave.

OP here. I offered them bathroom usage and 2 of the 3 did come in and use it. I did check their cleanup afterwards just to make sure I didn’t see any nails/staples. I crossed the street and took a pic of my new roof and then thanked them and waived bye. I did not tip. They did come with their own food and a small cooler of drinks.
