Do step-ups with dumbbells instead. Don't let your trainer push you to do anything that leads to pain or possible injury. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_oNQX4srHc |
Have you tried doing lunges with TRX straps, or talked to your trainer about it? That might take some of the pressure off your knees while building leg strength and working up to relying less on the straps, or not at all. |
You can follow the Knees Over Toes Guy on social media. He has a whole program that builds from extremely limited range of motion knee exercises all the way to barbell lunges with your ankle completely flexed and your knee way out in front of your toes. If you work up slowly and _never_work_through_pain_ then you can get there, and you'll be able to do lunges pain-free. |
I do walking lunges across one of the fitness studio rooms - up and back two times. I find walking lunges to be easier for me to do correctly. Also, try step ups on a weight bench - not the same but good for targeting glutes and quads. |
Oh wow, this is me. I went to physical therapist and she gave me some pointers, but said that basically my knees are probably fine if I can use them everyday and to just avoid exercises (like lunges) that hurt them. The problem is, SO many workouts do lunges. What are good for bad knee alternatives? |
Check out this video - really helped me fix my lunge form:
