MCAP… Teacher told my DC’s class

LOL. I will be sure to tell my physician DS that his 3rd grade test scores are more important that his MCAT and subsequent medical score boards.

Make sure your 3rd grader understands that the teacher was nervous about what the test would reveal about her own performance and she took it out on her class. Adults get caught up in worrying about things too, and unfortunately, she really overstated the importance of this test in her students’ lives because of the importance it carries for her.

I'm a teacher and I'm not stressed at all about how the scores will reflect on me. I don't really know any other teachers concerned with this either as it isn't really a reflection of our teaching skills at all. I just told my fifth graders not to worry about it and try their best.

+1. When my kids say stuff like this, I like to probe a little. Usually, when kids say an adult said something outlandish that doesn't make sense, it turns out what actually happened was much less extreme. Teachers don't care about this test. It in no way reflects on them or impacts their jobs.

Nope. That teacher said all of that and with that intensity. As a teacher, I wish adults would believe children and stop discrediting them at every turn.

LOL. Okay, I see that you're just blowing up the forum with craziness about MCAP. Relax, psycho.

Lol you were there to hear the cadence in their pitch? Come on…..I’m a teacher and a parent myself. As a rule, I always believe kids. I’m also well aware they can embellish or hear things the wrong way. Use critical thinking skills here.

Maybe MCPS should not have closed shop for a year and half and the students would be able to perform. As far as reflecting on the school but not the teachers…. That’s madness of course teachers and schools are connected and accountable for performance.

OP, if you really believe the teacher actually said this, please send her a gentle email asking for clarification. Posting here will do nothing but whip you up and stress your child out more. By communicating with her you can nip misunderstandings in the bud. Don’t be quick to assume something awful.

Schools have been open for 2 years now. And no, teachers aren’t concerned about this at all. Keep living in 2020.

My child’s 8th grade teacher is freaking out about this test… she has made students cry. Also you cannot simply wash away the damage the 2020-2021 closures wrecked upon children’s academic achievement especially those in lower income areas and title one schools.

No one said you can wash it away. You also can’t cling to it as an excuse for your child’s performance either. Teachers as a whole are not at all concerned about these tests. If your kid’s teacher is making students cry over it, tell admin. Have the other parents tell admin. Do something about the situation other than use it as an singular anecdote on DCUM to make a point about school closures which ended 2 years ago.

You cannot POSSIBLY know that unless you were in the room when it was said. No. Sorry.

If your kid gets rattled that easily about tests you should seek help or else they will be servicing my water heater in 10 years
