If a restaurant has a 20% service charge on every check, do you still tip?

No way.

Thanks - I was leaning toward no or perhaps just $5 to my server.

Looking at the menu, my order would be $39.50 + $7.90 service charge. That's pretty steep for Ramen for one person if I needed to add an additional $8 tip.

Yeah I usually add $1-$5 depending on what I ordered.

That’s the tip. Definitely no expectation to leave more.
Anonymous
I’d ask the restaurant if that includes gratuity.
Anonymous
No, and I'd avoid that place just for that. Gross.

Are they putting gold flakes in the ramen?

What kind of Ramen is $40, it should be $14-20 max. I would not tip anything else.

No, are you nuts?

We were just in Miami and every single restaurant, cheap to expensive, did this.

Why? That is their tip. You’re already tipping 20% why do you feel the obligation to tip another five dollars?

Why? I love places that do that. I wish every restaurant just automatically added 20% and we could be done with this whole tipping business.

I'd prefer they raise their prices by 20% so there really isn't any surprise.

And if they say no then you'll leave another 20%?
