New Brunswick is not an area you want to live in, but other posters had some nice suggestions of towns to look into.

You would be about 30 minutes from Princeton, which is a really nice town to live in.

Well, I pay around $8000 for 1500 sq ft in the DC area. But my property is assessed at about $700K. It would be helpful to specify assessed value when discussing property taxes, because that's always how they're calculated. I've never heard of property taxes being based on square footage.

I'm the PP from NJ. House assessed at 400,000 (market value is about 550,000 now but last assessment was a few years ago). Semi rural area of NJ. Nowhere near the city if that helps.

Princeton, West Windsor or Montgomery. If you want to walk to town pick Princeton.

In central Jersey you’d be paying about $16,000 on a home assessed for $700k.

$1M is a little low for Princeton Township. I agree that West Windsor would be good, or the areas that feed into South Brunswick High.

I live and own my home in Princeton. You can find and buy a house for around $1 million you just need to have all your paperwork in order and have a good realtor. I met two families who bought in the $1-1.3 million dollar range in Princeton in pocket/ off market deals and both homes were move in ready.

If you want a larger house for your price range look in West Windsor or Montgomery. I have friends who live in both towns and are happy.
