The things he mentions aren’t even happening, though. It’s a false narrative, which is why it’s bizarre! |
Not to white knight but people break into unlocked cars in the best of neighborhoods, and even steal from stores on Rodeo Drive. Crimes of opportunity happen everywhere. |
|
It’s time to attack him on where he lives. Make jokes.
|
| The people of DCUM should be able to come up with a one liner when this guy starts commenting on the hood. For example, “We got it Jack, you have mentioned (insert X) every time you visit. Let’s move onto something else.” |
I’d rather live in the hood than in MAGA country with meth heads, just saying. |
|
I have friends who moved to a suburban town (but on the outer suburbs) from the city for financial reasons (I know because the wife and I were close and she told me the reasons they were moving), and the husband is constantly commenting on how much he loves his town, is so happy he moved there and how it’s so much better than the city and he can’t imagine why people still live in the city, etc.
he’s clearly insecure. |
| It’s insecurity plus patting himself on the back. Have you ever gone to lunch with a coworker after they leave your company? They do the same thing, say something negative about your work. Just roll your eyes and move on. |
The term shady is extremely racist! |
I picked up on this too! It sounds like OP is saying that the friend is building a nice house in a nice safe community but in other communities around it there are crime problems. That’s way better than living in a crime ridden community yourself. |
|
He projecting and probably has absorbed too much propaganda. I would just change the subject, and not even consider fighting with him.
The truth doesn't matter to someone like this and they are trying to justify their decisions. |
| The next time he says something like that, I would say, "I don't know why you are talking about. I feel pretty safe here. Why crimes have you heard about, specifically?" |
"Jack do you want to park in our garage while you're here since it sounds like you think our neighborhood is sketchy?" |
| Maybe they watch a lot of Fox News or listen to conservative media, which loves to exaggerate what a hellscape urban life is |
