Super Mario Brothers Movie

This movie had ZERO plot and yet it was still enjoyable. They did a great job of giving life and personality to all the characters. The animation was spot on and the music was great. I found it similar to Lego movie where it was just good, animated fun, yet Lego movie had a more of a plotline to follow which made it a little more engaging (for the adults at least). I hope they make a sequel and work a little on the script next time.

You see every movie released in theaters? You seem very discerning.

How did your kids like the Mario movie?

Just watched the movie with my kids. It was very fun. Kids and I really enjoyed it.

Saw it with my 16 yo this weekend and we both really enjoyed it. Great family movie

My husband took my 11, 9, and 5 yos last week, and they all want to see it again (including DH). He's telling me I should go too, and I probably will. I haven't heard anything negative about it from anyone, actually.

I think we're going to go back to see it in 3D! My son only wanted to see it in 2D and since he loved it, he wants to get the 3D experience.

They probably would but be aware that it’s pretty violent. I felt like the whole movie was people getting hurt. I get why Nintendo fans loved it but it’s not a cute cartoon story. There were way more adults than kids in the theater.

I know some parents really edit violence so I don't want to argue against this poster but for the adults out there this is NOT an adult's movie a la the 90s movie. This IS a kids movie. And it isn't like a pixar kids movie with adult themes, it’s straight up kid's movie. It is kind of violent but in the same way the games are violent. Bowser has some scary parts but this is a kid's movie.

NP I agree with this. The violence was very Original Nintendo/Mario Kart—and Bowser’s scariness is pretty quickly offset by silliness.

NP. Yep, it’s cartoon violence. Nothing that they wouldn’t see playing a Mario game.

I’m the PP who mentioned it was violent. I agree that it’s no worse than the games but a lot of 4 year olds may not play those games yet. And a lot of parents on dcum say their kids get scared by movies that aren’t even meant to be scary so just be forewarned. I wouldn’t recommend the movie for young kids simply because it’s a cartoon. If they are used to Mario video games, they’ll be prepared for it.

I took my 3 year old daughter who has never played a Mario game. She loved it. It’s cartoon violence you’d see in a Tom and Jerry/Looney Toons cartoon.
It’s not like Fight Club or The Last of Us.

My six year old and I saw it yesterday. The plot is dumb and it's mostly not great, but kids will like it. I've been playing the games since I was five and I enjoyed it on that level: the little references and musical bits taken from the games. It's fluff but that's fine.

It had a plot! You weren't paying attention

It most definitely had a plot. Fun little movie and appropriate for all ages - there was a line of small children sitting in front of us, around 4 to 6 years old. They all seemed to have a blast. The adults, too...after all, the Mario franchise is from our own childhoods! Loved the music.

My husband and 7yo loved it! Husband called it fun nostalgia and 7yo enjoyed the silly Bowser stuff.
