My daily to do lists are all handwritten and phone notes, I write lists and notes daily.

My Older child who attended DCPS through elementary never learned. Younger child who attends elementary in another state (not in DMV) is learning cursive now in 3rd grade. I am no longer able to write in cursive myself, my handwriting is a weird mix of cursive and print.

The NoVA parochial schools all do as far as I know.

I do and people remark on how lovely it is, like it's some old timey relic. People often misname it calligraphy

I was born in 1980 and I still write in cursive if I write a note or list by hand.

My kids often can’t read it. They need a translator when Grandma writes a message in their birthday cards.

I still write cursive. So few people write anymore though! I mean in business, everything is typed. In school now, most are typed papers. On tests, kids have to write but most don't use cursive.

I do think writing is going by the wayside and it's sad. But we also don't remember phone numbers or need to do simple math (adding/sub/mult/dividing) on a daily basis. We don't write checks much. We don't write letters to anyone for sure. We don't even sign holiday cards! I'm pretty sure writing in complete sentences for many adults is difficult considering we all text - not really sure we even write emails anymore - hah!

Unless we post on this forum, I don't think we really use our brains to do communicate on any complex level. Do we even make conversation anymore with strangers for more than 25 seconds at a time??

It's the dumbing down of society. I think we would all do better to go back in terms of having to write. Letters, papers, reports, etc. There's something to be said for drafting, editing, revising and long-hand coordination between the physical action of translating your thoughts from mind to paper. Alas, I was Liberal Arts major. I still use a paper date book to track my agenda and make lists, write thoughts down, etc.

I do think for those of us that are into the arts, writing will never completely go away but I'm not sure as a skill, whether new generations will ever go this way again. It's the "leveling" of society as a professor once taught us. As new tech comes in, so old ones go extinct.

I worked in a public elementary school in NoVa until a few years ago and I noticed that some older teachers still taught cursive even though it wasn't required but very few younger teachers taught it.

I write cursive when I want my writing to be kept secret from my kids.

Blue books are still a thing in some colleges. I hate to see how quickly your child completes one writing in block letters.

I write cursive. But I'm a writer and I start all my books on paper with pen. It's just really fast.

Also, I write a lot of handwritten notes.

I write a lot. My to-do list and my personal planner are paper. I take my work notes in an actual notebook. My handwriting is now a mishmash of cursive and print.

When she was young my DD asked me to buy her a workbook to teach herself cursive. Most schoolwork is online but she does know how to both print and write in cursive.
