I do think writing is going by the wayside and it's sad.  But we also don't remember phone numbers or need to do simple math (adding/sub/mult/dividing) on a daily basis.  We don't write checks much.  We don't write letters to anyone for sure.  We don't even sign holiday cards!  I'm pretty sure writing in complete sentences for many adults is difficult considering we all text - not really sure we even write emails anymore - hah!

Unless we post on this forum, I don't think we really use our brains to do communicate on any complex level.  Do we even make conversation anymore with strangers for more than 25 seconds at a time??

It's the dumbing down of society.  I think we would all do better to go back in terms of having to write.  Letters, papers, reports, etc.  There's something to be said for drafting, editing, revising and long-hand coordination between the physical action of translating your thoughts from mind to paper.  Alas, I was Liberal Arts major.  I still use a paper date book to track my agenda and make lists, write thoughts down, etc.

I do think for those of us that are into the arts, writing will never completely go away but I'm not sure as a skill, whether new generations will ever go this way again.  It's the "leveling" of society as a professor once taught us.  As new tech comes in, so old ones go extinct.[/quote]
