Stellar student, aces every test
I think SOLs are not great.
Colvin Run

Rejected.
Really upset. The school is too EASY for her and son is bored.

Any advice on the appeal?
I heard about getting tested at Geroge Mason.
Looking for any guidance.

What grade?

3rd grade. Also I'd like to know whether we can see the file, I have no way to know whether a good job was done in the submission by the school. The work that is brought home is nothing of the quality that can lead to good samples. Some kids are pulled out by AART and mine never is. I don't know whether this where the gifted work is done. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes you can ask for the whole file. You could start a new thread to ask for tips on appeal. GL

3rd grade, she has not taken any SOLs yet, first round in May of 3rd grade. Ask for a copy of the packet from the ART teacher after spring break. You can appeal. I am not sure how much value there is, but you can have her take the WISC at GWU and submit with the appeal.

Kid didn't get in. I realize that if my kid did get in, I would love the system. The parents of the ones who don't, may think it's a subjective process. But I am wondering whether there is there any bias especially for parents who are close to the school administrators (aka PTO)? I hear about principal selected. Does the principal weigh in? I recall a conversation where the principal called my kid reserved and I wonder if there was some bias. The comment bothered me.

The principal only knows my kid because once he got in a fight a recess. He got an office level consequence and still got in. Maybe principal placement if you attend a center? My neighbor suggested that when we had just moved in from overseas. I just applied for immediate placement and that worked out for us.

I would also talk to the AART to see they can get some good work samples for the appeal. I agree that the kind of stuff that comes home every week doesn’t really give the opportunity for critical and creative thinking. I think an appeal requires new information like a new diagnosis of ADHD that is impacting the child or something else found in the testing at GMU.

Our PTA president has been applying for her kid for years with no luck.
