I would share the cost at least! |
If I'm the neighbor, I try my luck in small claims court arguing negligence and actual knowledge based the prior tree and the condition of the trees |
How much is a decent relationship worth? I'd hand them cash for a healthy part of it. |
We’re in Md and have had this issue (we’re the neighbor). First time, our insurance paid (tree through our roof). Then we asked neighbor to cut down some of her dead trees that threatened our property. She refused but gave us permission to pay to have them cut down, which we did. Another tree recently became obviously sick. We e sent her a registered letter noting that the tree needs to come down. No response from her. Our insurance company tells us that now if that tree damages our property she’ll have to pay since we put her on notice. No idea if that’s true. I hate her by the way. Please don’t be that neighbor OP. |
+2 Really unbelievable. |
This. Our neighbor does not maintain her trees. We've been talking to her about it for years. Then one day a HUGE one fell on our yard, destroying new planted trees ($1000s). I KNOW technically this is our problem, but it massively sucks when trees are not properly maintained. She paid to clean up the tree (thankful) but not for the damage caused. (cracked driveway, ruin plants.) The block was without power for two days - tree went right over the power lines. She made enemies of everyone on the street because it was obvious she ignored the problem. She is lucky no one died. Insurance company says if it happens again they will sue her for negligence. |
I'll add - like the poster above - that we have sent letters with pictures. If it happens again insurance company says they will sue for negligence (if they can). We just got a new roof . . . we have also paid to have branches removed that hang over our yard - but that does not do anything to prevent the rest of the tree for falling. |
Yes she will have to pay per your action. |
Trees stress me. We had arborist out our first month in our new house and took down 3. Neighbors cheered as apparently previous owners refused to address the very large. Long dead trees that kept dropping limbs in Neighbors yard.
If you have trees you need to have them checked yearly imho |
Can you afford the $2800? If you can, I would take the moral decision here. We had a tree that was healthy but overhung our downhill neighbor's house. If it had fallen, it clearly would have killed them all. It was causing a lot of anxiety during storms etc. We agreed to pay half to take it down. It was the ethical thing to do. |
LOL. This. |
He needs to send you a notice that your trees are diseased and you need to care for them.
I'd be PISSED if your trees kept falling on my property and making my premiums rise. $500 is a very low deductible. I have $1500 and figured that was pretty standard. |
Some people should not own trees... |
To lose one tree may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose two looks like carelessness. |
Did you read OP? There was a bad storm. Nowhere does it sound like her/his trees aren’t “managed.” |
