I hope my daughter keeps growing. She just got her period, she’s 11 years old. She’s about 4’9.

My niece got her period early, around 11 yo. She was under 5' 4" at the time (shorter than me). She is 15 now and 5' 7" so she grew a out 3-4 inches.

1.5in but she got it at 13.5. I’d look to family growth patterns on both sides, the whole 1-2in after period is really more of an average. We know a few girls who got it young who def grew more than that.

My DD was 12 and grew another inch or 2 (she's 5'3) and I was 12 and grew another inch or 2 (I'm 5'4). DD was always a little below average in height at her annual physicals and there was no reason to think she would be taller then she is. Her period didn't make her short. 3 of her grandparents are 5'4.

Your own family history and her growth curve/predicted height are going to be better indicators than a poll of random DCUM posters.

we saw minimal growth after the first period. they usually only grow for 2 years max after they get it.

My kid (now 13) has grown 4 inches since she got her period 13 months ago. And I bet she has a few more inches in her since she is still shorter than I am.

I am PP, my kid's friend has grown 5 inches since her period started at 10 and she is 13 and still growing. Just noticed she is is taller than I am and that wasn't true a few months ago. Both of her parents are tall though.

I know that growth slows for girls after this point and trying to figure out what’s realistic to expect as far as additional growth for a 10 year old. Curious to hear from other parents who have daughters that got their periods on the younger side.

this happened to 2 of my daughters...one grew 4 inches, done growing, 3 inches shorter than predicted based on parent height and also her growth curve when younger. second grew three inches-hoping she grows at least 1-2 more inches, not sure if she will, also 3-4 inches shorter now than predicted.....praying third doesnt develop so early, she is more petitie than the other two so we are having her see ped end just in case as may consider puberty blockers--which yes can have significant side effects...

regarding why? well they are active , thin, not genetic, so I have beat my head up about this...i dont know..i did take progesterone in pregnancy and also we lived in a smelly old house at the time--estrogen like chemicals? who knows...

Please don't blame yourself. My DD has a similar profile along with my progesterone use but is moderately tall. More likely with your DDs, a forgotten ancestor 's genes are showing up. Height can be genetically tricky.

thank you! yes i tend to obsess when things arent "perfect"...Im trying to actively block these "loop thoughts"--thoughts that really serve no purpose other then to drain the energy and happiness of one thinking them....

About 4 inches! She was 14 when she got it, so I was surprised that her growth took off at the same time.

+1

I’d look at family heights and growth patterns. Also has she had a growth spurt yet?

My DD is 14 and still hasn’t started hers (probably soon) - she is 5’4”. I think it is likely that she is probably near her full height based on family/genetics, and also because has 2 years of really fast growth that has now slown.

3 daughters. They all grew about 3 inches.

I think thats the average--some on dcum pointed intelligently if you look at growth charts where average period is 12.5 years the growth charts from that point on increase an average of 3 inches so that sounds right...now there are always outliers.....

so yeah if you get it at 10 you loose 2-4 inches of possible genetic height
