So you impacted her ability to use ED for a reason that in the end really doesn’t matter for you. Damn, I hope she doesn’t read this. I would be beyond pissed that I could have applied ED. |

Accepted Bowdoin (defer from ED), Colby, Midd (+ safeties/target)
Rejected - Williams, Amherst, Swart 1570 SAT 3.9 UW 4.4 W 7AP 1 Varsity sport (yr round club - 4 years) Captain. Not Recruited no awards, unique non academic EC female, public CA, full pay, going for science major |
Swat costs 80k a year. Not everyone has money to burn. They didn’t want to be locked in. This is a perfect example of how the upper middle class loses out now. Rich families who are price insensitive (or poor families who will get aid no matter what) take up all the ED seats. |
Congrats. Science major prob key there |
why???? |
congratulations. what u think sets her apart? |
Because females less likely to be STEM |
not these days. hardly unique |
Not unique but in a super competitive environment, I assume these schools are incrementally interested in finding physics major females vs English major females. And vice versa |
I’d agree. But if bio or neuroscience or similar, I’d say a net negative as pre meds are way over represented in the applicant pool. |
| Bowdoin poster here - good interpretation here. She is Chem or Physics, but not premed. Admission cannot really distinguish that from the application because she does have activities that fits the premed profile. Not really consider engineering, going for NE LACs + Dartmouth and one other T5 (legacy, rejected). She is big on outdoor which shows in the essay. |
will she play her sport there? (i realize not recruited) |
if she wants to - it's a club sport in Bowdoin. |

To the family rejected at Swat, I understand why not to go ED. I don’t understand how the other students can be that much stronger than her w those stats.
Anyway, she did great In high school. Hope she feels good about that. |
This. I know you said your DS went heavy on targets but I think they had a pretty good list. |
