Please post school, result from school, test scores, gpa and any other relevant info here.
Also post ED1 or ED2 results and stats, if applicable Thanks! |
| Accepted RD at a top LAC with ~5% acceptance rate but rejected in state at UVA. Public high school. No hooks. ACT 34, GPA 4.5, well rounded kid with national awards. Holistic admissions are so unpredictable you MUST mass apply nowadays. |
| Bump. We need some data points here! |
For LACs, whether the applicant is male or female is also important information. |
And full pay or not |

Swarthmore RD, rejected. 1550 SAT/1570 btw 2 tests; 35 ACT/36 btw 2 tests. 4.0 uw/4.6 w GPA. Well regarded public school in the Midwest. DD had highest rigor, except for a handful of students in multivariable Calc. School does not rank, but she would likely be 6th in her class of 400. 3 varsity sports, captain of 2 in Jr & Sr year. National merit finalist. 4 national awards + state officer in the org associated w/those awards. Excellent teacher recs. The kid does not sleep, but is self-driven and generally happy.
I read her Swat essay, and it seemed good to me. If I recall, there was only one essay for Swat, and it was fairly short, but she went to the max # of words. Her CA essay was excellent. She is down today, but will move on - because what else can she do? She left nothing on the court w/her apps. The top 2 girls in her class each applied to 30+ schools (though not Swat that she knows of). She will not be able to compete with either of them at any of the overlap colleges still to come this week. |
I'm not sure specific anecdotes here will provide more information than the data the schools release. What you'll see is rejections of exemplary students, and acceptances of students whose value might not be clear from the basic stats, and everything in between. It feels very unpredictable, and it's painful to live through as a parent (so no doubt worse for students). It's not random, even if it is unpredictable. The schools are picking from pools of highly qualified students, so they can pick for fit and institutional needs. |
I think anecdotes can be very informative. Schools give summary data. Specific profiles are more interesting |
You dodged a bullet. Swat is an annoying grind school. Why didn’t she ED? |
| She didn’t ED to keep her options open. That was mostly because of DH & me, due to the cost of college and wanting to see any scholarship options available. She will most likely wind up at our state flagship on a full tuition scholarship, so that’s nothing to sneeze at and we’re grateful she has that option. Still, we probably would have made it work for Swat. DD wanted to leave our area for college to experience a different part of the country. |
Why won’t you name the college? |
|
GPA 3.4 UW. SAT 1550. DC charter school. Mediocre ECs.
RD: Skidmore admitted AU admitted with 20k/year UCSD waitlisted UCLA rejected Waiting on more mostly reaches and high targets EA: UMD CP admitted Spring 2024 CO Boulder admitted UMASS admitted with 15k/year Delaware admitted honors 3k/year Pitt admitted Ohio state admitted with 16k/year Michigan St admitted with 14k/year Northeastern NUIN admitted CWU deferred will see today but prolly no DS went heavy on targets |
Sorry forgot 11 APs. Mostly 3s and 4s. DS is a lazy student... |
Why do you have to be so annoying? Why can’t you say something more helpful? |
Lol. I’ve got one. But if you think about it B+/A- average with 11 APs at a school with real grading. That’s not lazy. |
