Congrats to all of the kids, and to MCPS for cultivating a group of kids with the skills to take on a big task like this one.

Ok Mom, Larla is wonderful!

You're not happy about it too.

The reports of MCPS' decline are greatly exaggerated!

We're working hard to create the narrative that society is free fall decline, so please stop using facts to contradict or ficitons.

I have been hearing MCPS's decline on DCUM for at least the last 10 years, but every year MCPS smoked the competitions in any academic competition.

As usual and once again MCPS crushed the competitions, but we all know DCUM is not happy about it.

Wow! These Asian-American kids from MCPS are just too good. They keep excelling regardless of how dumb MCPS curriculum and policies become. Of course, their success does not take away how dismally MCPS is doing overall.

Congratulations to the parents of these children for investing their time, money and effort on their kids education, and raising the kind of citizens this country needs.

(So, will MCPS central office create roadblocks in their path down the road? I mean they do screw Asian-American kids comes time for magnet admissions but bask in the glory they get due to their hardwork, brainpower and the support of their parents and community! Must be a real bitter pill to swallow!)

LOL. Nice try. Great for the kids but doubtful they learned many tv skills in school. All the tools are on their cell phones!

My kid was in the Humanities program at MLK. They’re not using editing software that’s standard on cell phones. Don’t post what you don’t know about,

The teams that tend to do this come from the humanities magnets. MLK, EMS, and Blair CAP. They have access to specialized tools, AND, they have help from teachers who have had winning teams before. Congrats to the kids. It is a wonderful opportunity. Too bad they can't off it to all kids.

They “screw Asian American kids in magnet admissions”?!!! Asian American kids are the vast majority of admitted students - way out of proportion with their proportion of the population. They are extremely privileged. If you want to work out who is “screwed in magnet admissions” I suggest you look at black kids and Latino kids. Look at Blair magnet- seems to be about 65 percent Asian, 20 percent white, 10 percent black and 5 everyone else including Latino. How are Asian American kids “screwed” in the race blind process that vastly favors them over other students of different races? Just stop with this BS.

Congratulations to these students. Bless the parents for giving birth to and nurturing such meritorious kids.

BTW, C-SPAN competitions are open to all kids. Please make sure that your children participate.

Good luck to you. Hopefully, next year, others can take inspiration from these students and crack the code to success.

I'm always mystified by these claims too. They just don't align with the reality given the magnet makeup and especially since the selection is race-blind.

This is an annual competition. Parents should make a note of it.

No need to be mystified. Asian-Americans are highest achieving in all academic and scholastic metrics. If MCPS was NBA, all the players would be Asian Americans.

In MCPS a lot of Asian Americans with higher credentials are rejected to take in less than stellar URMs. Why? Because it indeed is a travesty to leave behind any URM who legitimately is a B-student. But, an Asian-American A student? Pffftt..

A brain is a terrible thing to waste - unless it is an Asian-American brain because then they are over-represented.

A man should be known for the content of his character and not the color of his skin - unless he is an Asian-American because then the content of character of parents becomes the child's privilege.

Instead of expanding the magnet program - MCPS diluted it and there is gate-keeping to keep Asian-Americans out. They call it lottery. But are the children ok? Nope. The racial group that should have been helped is even more behind.

In spite of the hurdles put in their path Asian-Americans are still doing very well.

You’re nuts. The process is race blind. I’ll say it again, it’s race blind. It also massively favors Asian Americans particularly at high school simply because, it seems, more Asian Americans apply and have high scores. Why is that? Are Asian brains just innately better than others as you seem to suggest? Because their Asian brains are just smarter or better suited to magnets then black brains or Latino brains or even white brains should just sit out? The process is RACE BLIND - no one is taking away slots from one ethnic group and giving them to another. Own your privilege here. Or perhaps you are just angry that because the middle school magnets are now partially lotteries it’s more difficult now for any one group to game the system by obsessively prepping their kids for tests and making their childhoods miserable to serve a parental goal.

You seriously need help.
