I don’t have a problem with it, but I’ve always wondered why this particular disability is singled out for beneficial treatment. There are plenty of other disabilities that make it difficult to work as well. I always figured the lobbyists on behalf of the blind must be really good!

I think the tax deduction thing is fine, but I also think it’s weird that it’s just this one disability. Being blind absolutely comes with costs, and impacts employment but so does an intellectual disability for example.

For those PP’s wondering why blind people are being singled out for special tax treatment, just remember there used to be a lot more blind people. Congenital rubella and measles were major causes of childhood blindness. Same with Vitamin A deficiency. There have been many advancements in technology and seeing eye dogs, but for awhile the best you could hope for was a special school where your kid could read Braille books. The world was otherwise completely inaccessible and the tax savings probably wasn’t costing anyone much because the working world wasn’t set up to facilitate their participation in large numbers.

Kind of topic here, but another reason to vaccinate your kids.
