Same. Occasionally they may move certain kids to another table if they're acting up. |
| DS's school has this right now. The school is constantly obsessed with the kids being loud during lunch. This was done as punishment for being too loud too many times it sounds like. |
Have you been in the average cafeteria? Loud is an understatement. Kids scream. No joke. Assigned seats bring it to a level that won't burst eardrums. |
Yup. Apparently they are happy with the current groupings and don't want to rock the boat. It's more of an annoyance than a real problem, so DC has just resigned to deal with it for a few more months. He doesn't dislike the kids he is sitting with, just would prefer some variation. |
For real. Eventually they won’t have ANYONE willing to cover lunch duty. Then what, pp? I get stressed out bringing my class to the cafeteria because of the behavior of the kids in there and I don’t have lunch duty. It’s awful. Kids run around, throw things, scream, make huge messes and it’s also too loud. I suggest pp volunteer for lunch duty at her son’s school for a week and see what she thinks then. |
| My kid said the kids were throwing food and yelling last week. They have assigned seats now, and I can see why! |
This sounds like BASIS. The silent lunches there sounded draconian, until I saw the absolute chaos at my younger kid's DCPS lunch. Now I don't mind the "silent lunches" that aren't really that silent anyway. |
Whoops. Didn't realize I was in the Fairfax forum. Carry on! |
Yes--screaming, jumping out of seats constantly, bottle flipping, throwing food. Plus when they're busy chatting with friends they DONT EAT. Then an hour later they complain they're hungry or parents complain their kid doesn't have enough time to eat. If you're a parent who lets their kid run around during meal times and graze because it's easier for you, then please reconsider your family rules. |
| My ES class doesn’t have assigned seats, but we are assigned tables by class. There are 50 seats available for each class and I have 22 students, so they just choose and spread out. |
| My kids’ middle school has assigned tables. |
Only for certain classes when there were behavior issues. My kids were in classes with and without assigned seats, depending on the year. |
+1 I also do lunch duty and the kids are so freaking rude. Instead of politely picking up their tray/trash, they lob it at the garbage can (which I am pushing). Just so rude and disrespectful. Having teachers do lunch duty is demeaning, among other things. |
Who should do it then? I wish we could have the parents of the rude children come in and supervise, but that would never happen. Who else can they make do it? |
Great idea. All I know is that overworked teachers, who barely get 30 minutes for their own lunch (if they're lucky) should NOT have to do cafeteria duty. |
