Trainer doesn’t look that fit

She doesn’t look that fit but has all the right credentials and experience. She isn’t the only trainer at gym who isn’t that fit either.

Would this bother you?

I'd rather she be slim and aspirational than doughy. I generally prefer to be around visually pleasing people, though.

Would you want a doctor who is overweight and smokes or a therapist whose life is a hot mess or a dentist with jacked up teeth or a teacher with a low IQ?

I definitely have doctor's who are overweight, I don't know if they smoke. It doesn't bother me.

I'm fat but have a ton of muscle underneath my flab. All three generations of women in my family on both sides are thick. I was destined to be fat, but I'm still fine being active and such.

My trainer is so busy working that he doesn't have time to train himself. He's still decently fit though.

If any of those things impacted the service, then no.

But if a trainer can provide quality training, I don't care how they look.

Appearances aren’t everything. She could be very fit and also like bread and cheese. Or just be genetically predisposed to look the way she does. Those things can coexist.

Yes it would bother me. You gotta walk the walk!

I wouldn't go to a hair stylist with a bad haircut, either.
.

The old joke is that there are two hairstylists in town. Which one do you go to, the one with the great hair style or the one with a not so great hairstyle?

I don’t mind an overweight doctor. The ones I have had trouble with are the ones who are very slender and can’t understand why everyone else isn’t also slender.

If you want to challenge the notion that you are destined to be fat, listen to Katrina Ubell's podcast episode 15

Not PP but thick does not always equal fat. Does the podcast touch on body shapes outside of the Caucasian female?

Ex: Serena Williams is not a size 0 but is extremely fit.

Yes, I find this disheartening. It appears that the ideal Caucasian female body type is slender, with small breasts and bottom or complete devoid of one. Extra points if they have a thigh gap, concave stomach, or lean muscles that have no fat covering them.

While it is true that 70% of the population does not look like that, that body type occupies most of the brain when thinking of someone who is fit, attractive and competent as it does transcend into the workplace. I have many friends of various ethnicities and some of the fittest are not slender but maybe average and have excellent muscle tone and low BMI. A few of my friends do have this body type and they eat very clean and walk every day. One is a avid cyclist.

+1 Although some marathoners are downright pudgy, so if they look a certain way but I know they can outlift and outwork me, then I’ll accept that it’s genetics and respect them.

Ideally your trainer is busy training people so they don’t have a ton of time to spend in the gym building huge muscles for themselves. The most important thing is that they are knowledgeable and their training style & approach works for you. And look at their track record and with previous clients and success stories.

If they were very overweight that might give me pause but just being average or a little stocky wouldn’t bother me. Most legit trainers I see aren’t in amazing shape, just decent shape.

Most therapists are a hot mess.
