Native old DC person. March is always windy. But the rest of the year is much more windy in general. Lots more tree damage than when I was a kid.

I've notice there have been tons of windy days, this week or two alone will have 5-6 days that had gale force winds. Why? I need more than "global warming." What exactly is happening with the winds here?

It's March.

Way more windy the last year or two. Many more "gale force" wind days.

Global Winding

The polar vortex is less stable and is meandering further south. This is due to more warming at the poles.

It's always been windy at this time, and climate change is making weather more intense it seems.

I have been saying for almost a decade that it feels like it's getting windier here than it was when I first moved to DC 34 years ago. Now off to read that WaPo article to see if I'm right, LOL.

No one is talking about it, clearly it's happening. One WaPo article isn't enough....
