Pulling kids out for a week

I did it several times in elementary school and it was fine. Once they hit middle and high school it became more of a hassle to make up the work, so my kids didn't even want to miss more than a day or two. I had a friend who got a truancy note from the county when she pulled her kids out for a week.

Completely fair and not what I meant to imply (although upon reread, I see how it came off that way). I more mean that I did write to see if there was anything that we could/needed to do to stay up on the classroom content that happened while we were away, and were told to not worry about it and enjoy the trip (which I appreciated). If that meant fewer unexcused absences, great, though we were prepared for them all to be unexcused. And that’s exactly what they were marked as: unexcused. No issues/concerns from us and no hassle from the school about it at all, was totally fine.

Again, this is first grade—I imagine later grades are going to be harder to miss/catch up from.

Same here. I never bother the teacher either. It’s my kids responsibility to make it up on their own time afterwards. If not, they get a lower grade. But I make sure to never expect the teacher to do anything extra before or after for my kids absences.
