What Are the Best Private High Schools for "Alpha Male" Types?

Don't the other dogs/wolves determine who's alpha?

Perhaps it's wishful thinking by Momma Wolf?

Really, take ds over to Landon on Monday morning. This will be a good match.

Okay, we get it--this is like the third response in that vein.

Isn't sending a young "alpha male" to Landon like throwing kerosene on a simmering fire? Send him to STA, at least he'll better learn how deal with the betas of the world. Or better yet, send him to GDS or Burke.

This.

Homeschool him.

I would guess that OP thought "alpha" was a positive term when she used it to describe her son. I always understood it to be a negative term, but it seems there are people who think it is a good thing for their sons to be aggressive and dominating. The best thing for a brugeoning alpha-male might be to send him to a school that teaches sensitivity.

Maybe we could all give OP a break and assume that what she means by the "alpha" in her heading is what she described in detail in her post -- extroverted, athletic, academic and competitive. What do you think everyone means when they refer to the slightly-glossed over "type A" personality. These are not negative qualities (nor are they positive). She just appears to me to be asking about the options for school where people of this personality thrive.

Signed,
An alpha mom who manages not to assume the worst in people!

PP, what do you mean by "alpha mom"?

She probably means "extroverted, athletic, academic and competitive," just like the post said. Which likely defines a lot of women on this board.

Alpha male types like GH?

First, don't sweat the hens on this board.

Second, realize this: two types of men succeed in this world -- those who can thrive in a women's world (and thus GDS, etc.) and alpha males (STA/Landon). If you're son's an alpha, don't try to convert him to a GDS type. You'll just end up with a neutered alpha. Instead, throw him into the fire and give him a chance to thrive. Really.

"Type A" speaks to someone's relationship to work and to his/her personality -- intense, driven, disciplined. "Alpha" is about social relationships and the continual need to assert dominance. One person could be both, but they are different things.

How is GDS "a women's world"? Nerd world, I'd get. But the whole castration thing going on in 9:00's post is really creepy. Have dick, be dick, I guess. And the only alternative is dicklessness.

I am not a Landon booster at all ... but I met the nicest "20-something" guy over the weekend who recently graduated a very top Ivy and he went to Landon. He said he was one of the very few who transferred from GDS to Landon. The thing that shocked me was that he said he loved going to school every day at Landon...that he really looked forward to it. From his sweet demeanor, I realized there are some really nice kids there at Landon...and that I, like many others, had been judging the school really harshly without really knowing the inside details. The kid had been on the Landon lax team and he said that even though he had graduated college -- his best friends are still his Landon brothers.
