Compare Northwest HS and Quince Orchard HS and Clarksburg HS

I don't live in NW cluster btw.

But keep in mind that NW and QO will be having their boundaries redrawn with Crown HS opening in 2027(?).

PP here.. I would choose NWHS. But again, boundaries are going to be redrawn.

If it's academic rigor and quality of teaching and admin staff, yes that will vary school by school.

The latter. Quality of education if my kid doesn't get into a magnet. Quality of extracurriculars (is it at a high level, or is it so competitive you can't get in). Course options. Is there a lot of flexibility, etc.?

No Seneca Valley. We know some unhappy parents there. Some are trying to move out.

SV just got a new school so it’s much better.

Got it.

Just note that some of the things you're talking about can ebb and flow as staff and leadership turnover. So it might be good now, but could go downhill 2-3 years from now. These things are dynamic and not static.

Huh. I'm a Seneca Valley parent, and I, personally, know some unhappy parents at Clarksburg, Northwest, and Quince Orchard. And Poolesville. And Wootton, to be comprehensive. Oh, and Damascus.

LOL Wootton college acceptances are off the charts compared to the others. At least at Wootton students can go in the bathroom without worrying they will be jumped.

Every school has complainers.

OP

All of the schools you mentioned are fine.

Stay away from Damascus that one is one of the worst.

NW has much more crime than QO

QO has a math teacher for that everyone in his class gets a 5 on the AP exam for the subject he teachers I think it's Calculus.
QO is a good mix for pretty much everything.

Yeah, I was going to say, when it comes to safety and security, Northwest has some SERIOUS issues.

That school was also behind the headline-grabbing and embarrassing fight between players and coaches that rattled MCPS at the beginning of the school year: https://www.fox5dc.com/news/northwest-gaithersburg-football-fight-coaches-athletic-specialist-let-go

NW has some pretty bad-behaving kids.

DP.. my kid is at RMIB, and sometimes, I think DC would've been better off at schools like NWHS for college admissions. Less competition. Sometimes, more competition like at Wootton works against you.

For the most part, NWHS AP scores are higher than QOs.

https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/sharedaccountability/reports/detail.aspx?id=1539

Also, after Crown HS boundary changes, some of those "bad" kids may end up at QO. It's hard to tell how those chips may fall.

What exactly is bad about Damascus? We have a lot of friends there and they seem happy.

Obviously not W schools but seems like they have fewer issues than Spring Brook, Kennedy, Einstein. Is one obviously better/worse in terms of admin, programs, teachers, cohort, facilities?

Both fine schools offer more or less the same curriculum and provide similar opportunities. Go with which area appeals to you more.

Agree with this statement. Each school has signature programs, access to other programs at other schools, access to AP or DE courses, all have extra-curriculars. Sports in general are going to be competitive because these schools have 1500+ students and usually some 400-600 kids trying out each season. How competitive any given sport is going to be will depend on the pool of students in the area and school trying out. There are some no cut sports usually. Unless a family has a kid in more than one of these schools or had one attend recently the comparisons here are going to be skewed by hearsay.

Another Seneca parent here and we're happy.

SV just got a new school so it’s much better.

Seneca has out of control violence.
Nw has had a student murdered by a fellow classmate (s).
Quince orchard is the gentler of the 3.
